Hermitage Resort Darjeeling

I recently stayed at Hermitage Resort and wanted to share my experience in a review. Upon arrival, I was impressed with the cleanliness, decoration, and overall appearance of the common areas. My room exceeded my expectations in terms of size, cleanliness, and comfort. It was well-equipped with necessary amenities like towels, toiletries, and a coffee maker. Speaking of the staff, they were warm, and welcoming, and provided helpful information about the area. They were attentive to my needs throughout my stay, and any issues I encountered were resolved in a timely and satisfactory manner.
The hotel was conveniently located near Mall, and we got a clear view of Kanchanjangha from my room. The food quality is quite good. In a nutshell, this resort is excellent with respect to each aspect.

The USP of the hotel is the breathtaking view of Kanchanjunga mountain range from every room. Location is great near to mall. Cleanliness is good. Food quality and taste was really amazing. Staff behavior was very polite. They were attentive to all our requests. Rooms are spacious and equipped with all the necessary amenities such as tv, coffee maker, dressing table, toiletries etc.
Even they have kept Thermosteel bottle for drinking hot water.
I would definitely recommend this hotel for a family stay.

I stayed here from 29th nov. '23 to 01st dec. '23. Wonderful experience to stay here. Best location. Giant room, top to bottom clean, huge bathroom, prompt home service, cozy & warm bed, only food to be improved but breakfast with huge variety. Thanks.

I recently visited Darjeeling and stayed in Hermitage from 20 th to23 rd November..My room no was 103 and kanchanjanga was clearly visible from there..View from there is awesome...staff behaviour is great.. food is good there..service is also very good..

Hotel rooms , hospitality, location and food was excellent view from the rooms was awesome but should provide room heater complimentary like other hotels of same category provides by default.

It was a very good experience to stay there The food was also good.we ordered dal chapati sab roti and for breakfast we ordered aloo Paratha which was very good.

I had a great stay at the Hermitage resort. The rooms were spacious and the large windows overlooked the valley below with Mount Kanchenjunga in front of you. The bathroom was clean. All amenities as mentioned were available. The reception people were also very helpful and caring. A special mention for Me. Sushovan whom I could approach at any time for booking cars. Food at the restaurant was extremely good and the hygienic and everyone was courteous. A special mention for the old man at the security desk who advised us regarding the shortest and safest road to the Mall.
The resort is located about a 5 minutes walk from the Mall, so we could reach pretty fast to the city centre but was away from the congestion and hustle.
I would like to recommend the resort for anyone willing for a comfortable stay in Darjeeling. Would definitely stay here again if we go to Darjeeling again.

It is one of the best resorts in Darjeeling and located at a very good place with stunning views of the Kanchenjunga from each and every room. The staff here are very polite and friendly as well as helpful. Very good and will definately advise to stay here if budget is not a constraint.

On my second visit to Hermitage Resort in Darjeeling, only 18 months after my previous stay, I encountered a mixed array of experiences. While the resort undeniably boasts an enviable location with awe-inspiring views of the Kanchenjunga visible from any room on clear days, and an amiable staff led by the Operations Manager, Mr. A. Sengupta, there were discernible changes that left me with a sense of ambivalence.

Without a doubt, Hermitage Resort revels in one of the most picturesque settings in Darjeeling, making it a haven for nature enthusiasts. The expansive vintage-style rooms further add to its allure, and the warm and obliging staff under Mr. Sengupta's guidance ensures that guests' needs are well attended to. These aspects have remained consistent and indisputably constitute the resort's most notable strengths.

However, a major disappointment was the unforeseen closure of the rooftop restaurant, once a lively hub teeming with guests and activities. Regrettably, this decision has significantly altered the overall experience that Hermitage Resort used to offer. It is worth noting that a neighboring hotel has embraced the same rooftop restaurant concept and is thriving. I earnestly request the new management to reconsider reopening the rooftop as it greatly contributes to the allure of Hermitage Resort.

Another area that warrants immediate attention is the dining experience. The Purple Dining restaurant, while providing a delightful ambiance, would greatly benefit from having a seasoned individual with strong communication skills overseeing it during peak dining hours. This would undoubtedly ensure a smoother and more enjoyable dining experience for guests.

Additionally, some of the rooms in the 300 and 400 series require damp-proofing treatment and refurbishment. Addressing this issue would enhance the overall comfort and appeal of these rooms.

In conclusion, Hermitage Resort in Darjeeling undeniably ranks among the top hotels in terms of its extraordinary location, scenic beauty, unwavering dedication to service, and enchanting ambiance. Nevertheless, there are areas that demand attention to enhance the guest experience. Reopening the rooftop restaurant and improving the dining experience are crucial steps in elevating the overall appeal of the resort. Furthermore, addressing damp-proofing issues and upgrading certain rooms will enhance the quality of accommodation.

However, if these necessary improvements are not promptly addressed, then the premium rates charged by the hotel would require reconsideration. An online search indicates that Hermitage is categorized as a 3-star hotel; however, it lacks in-house parking and a bar/lounge area for serving drinks. While its name suggests a resort, several resort-like amenities, such as a spa and wellness center, gift shops, and an entertainment area, are conspicuously absent. Hermitage's management should contemplate how it wishes to position itself in terms of star rating and the resort designation and adjust pricing accordingly. With these enhancements, Hermitage Resort has the potential to regain its status as one of the best establishments in Darjeeling, offering an all-encompassing and unforgettable experience to its valued guests.

I think the accompanying photos tell the USP of this property - it gives perhaps the best Kanchenjungha views in all of Darjeeling. If and when the weather is clear, you will get a panoramic view of Kanchenjungha range and tea gardens from the warm comfort of your room.
I stayed in the Canvas category room at the same level as the reception. The room size is adequate, they provide a good room heater free of cost, and you get running hot water through geyser all the time. The complimentary breakfast spread was good in variety and taste. Food ordered through room service was decent, but costly.
The mall is around a 10 minute walk away. The car doesn't come right to the hotel, but the vehicle alighting point in front of Raj Bhawan is just a minute away. The Shrubbery Nightingale Park is also within walking distance.
All in all a great stay. I will most definitely stay here again. Highly recommended. 👍🏼👍🏼

Got amazing view of Snow covered Peak of Kanchenjunga.

The restaurant serves lip smacking food, and is pocket friendly.

The staff is very courteous and always greets there guest with a smile , starting from the security gaurd to the restaurant staff including Mr.Rahul & Mr.Roshit.
I would specially like to mention about the Manager Mr.Apurva.
He went out of the way to accommodate our request of serving the buffet breakfast at 7:45 am where the normal time for them being 8:30 am as we had a Joy train ride to Ghoom at 9:25am . Since the traffic moves at snail pace we wanted to leave early for the Joyride.

Superb Location. Unobstructive view of the Himalayan range along with the Kanchenjunghaa peak, makes this hotel super special. 5 min walking distance from Mall. Food is very expensive. Else the rooms, service is very good.

Gorgeous ambience with state of the art hospitality. Always careful with the guests. All needs are full filled apart from enjoying the Kanchanjangha from room... Myself and my family very very satisfied with the Manager Apurba.

Superb location and view from our room. Most of all the staff at resort is extremely helpful, polite and prompt. Food was great. Breakfast buffet had good variety. A perfect place to unwind and enjoy.
