The earliest were built by Bhima I and supposedly designed or at least financed by Vastupala, Jain minister of Dholka.

Awesome Jain Temples with intricate carvings of human beings, deities, angels and animals on pillars of white marble and on roofs. These are beautiful jain Temples built by rich jain merchants. Sadly no photography aur mobile photos are allowed, you have to deposit your mobile phones before entering the place. But it's worth a visit place in Mount Abu.👌🏼🙂

Wonderful archaeological monument and heritage place in Rajasthan. Enhousing the famous Jain temple. The structure remained after loot by invaders still reflect the past glory of Rajasthan. But the maintenance is in great need of much more attention and expense. The Kalptaru tree is drying and dying , the Parijat disappears from campus due to ignorance.

This temple consists of 4 different Jain temples in the same premises. Mobile phones and cameras are prohibited so I can't show you how intricate the carvings are. It's a must visit in Abu. The carvings in marble stones are out of this world.

The five Dilwara temples are among the most famous Jain temples. The Vimal Vasahi is much the earliest, constructed by 1031, with the Luna Vasahi by 1230, and the others at intervals between 1459 and 1582. All are in white marble which adds greatly to their effect and remains in use. The oldest and largest two have large amounts of intricate carving even by the standards of the style, reaching a peak in the Luna Vasahi temple. The main buildings of the first three named are surrounded by "cloister" screens of devakulikā shrines, and are fairly plain on the outer walls of these; in the case of the Vimal Vasahi this screen was a later addition, around the time of the second temple. These three have an axis from the sanctuary through a closed, then an open mandapa to an open rangamandapa, or larger hall for dance or drama.[6] Surrounding the main temple with a curtain of shrines was to become a distinctive feature of the Jain temples of West India, still employed in some modern temples.[7]

In later temples in the Māru-Gurjara style, a very pure white marble like that at Dilwara came to be regarded as highly desirable, even essential. In modern times, when the style has become popular in other regions of India, and with Hindu and Jain communities in other countries, local Rajastani marble is often carved and transported to the new building.

The temples have an opulent entranceway, the simplicity in architecture reflecting Jain values like honesty and frugality.[8] The ornamental detail spreading over the minutely carved ceilings, doorways, pillars, and panels is considered to be remarkable.[9] It is said that workmen were paid in gold according to the weight of marble powder scraped off.[10]

Five Temples

The architecture, the detailing on the walls, pillars, was like out of this world, it was so amazing, I couldn't believe it. So much minute , beautiful details, showing sheer hard work of the workers around 1000 years ago. I highly respect that. And that too, it's maintained in well form even today.
At first, before visiting this place, I thought of it as just another Jain temple, like we have in Ranakpur (that's also very good) but this one was mind blowing. I was in awe! ❤

It is an amazing temple, camera mobiles and footwear not allowed temple, so leave it at your vehicle. Carvings on marble is somewhat remarkable work. You will never see such wonderful architecture anywhere atop of mountain. Must visit point for tourist and art lovers.

Great art work by all the artists. Mobile phones are not allowed in the temple. Also a small market is available in front of temples.
The temple opening time is 11:00 AM.

Divine Feeling..... Awesome work of Architecture......A Big Salute to the architecture. Tourist had to deposit mobile phone in lockers ...which is chargeable.

Before visiting this place, I used to believe that state of the art marble sculptures and artworks are exclusive to Europe (yes, I know about the Taj). Post visit, I changed my mind. This is an architectural masterpiece and the artworks are so intricate and detailed, you have to visit to understand how much out of the world Indian architecture reached a thousand years ago. The temple does not look fancy from outside, but it is an eyewash! Take good amount of time in hand, the temple is open between 11 am and 5 pm. If you are an art enthusiast, you probably need to visit multiple times. The temple is maintained in excellent conditions, and the authority does not allow photography. So seeing is believing!

This temple is very good looking, and the art on the pillars and walls and doors are very attractive, there are so many small temples inside this temple, and the doors of the temples are made-up of silver. This is situated in mount abu. You can see awesome views from this temple.
