Thanal Beach Resort

On our wedding anniversary trip to Varkala, we booked Thanal beach resort as our stay after searching a lot for a good sea view room, but this room was all we wanted, a breath taking view of beach , mesmerizing sunset, perfect location of cliff , plus their owner lady , she is very polite. Felt like home there. Must visit if you want your stay to be memorable.

The most amazing views from the balconies, the rooms are the best of quality and the staff is so friendly and always happy to go above and beyond. Best looking resort in all of Varkala and the atmosphere makes you feel at home immediately. There is no place I would rather stay, the best part of our trip to India and we will be back to stay here as soon as possible. The massages are an experience worth traveling for and will have you feeling like you are on cloud nine.

Visited this resort from Canada and it met every expectation I had and more. Walking in the front door was like entering a serene and tranquil world, a stark contrast to the bustle of the Varkala Cliff community and a welcome respite for my party. Not to mention the incredible experience and the Ayurvedic spa with the traditional Kerala treatments available, what a treat! Will be staying here again and again for years to come.

This resort is located very near to the helipad and have easy access to the beach.
Very neat and beautiful rooms.
Good service also.

No food option available, you can have only a stay with amazing view to the beach from the balcony.

Being very particular with the presentation and feel of the hotels I like to stay at, it was hard to find a place that could offer something "extra", something either charming or more towards the 'designer style' of accommodation, not talking about something clean or value for money.
I local friend of mine suggested this place to me, thank you Shabir for doing that - made the two last weeks liveable (and actually made me stay longer in Varkala then planned).

Location is either suitable or not...it is if you like to be amongst the happenings (even though during off season, there is none!), you will hear the sea moving which if you are sensitive sleeper, might be annoying, whilst for others soothing.
The dogs next door keep busy during the night, but that is not unique in the area anyway.

I would like to give the owner and the elderly gentleman at the front desk a big thank you for allowing myself to be private. The hotel is very clean, and THOUGHT have put into the presentation. It is charming. Stands out for the area. It is small, probably not more then 10 rooms in total if not less. I think there is 3 on each floor. The rooms are cleaned each day (morning/lunch), which in Varkala does not seem to be something that must to be done, even if the hotel you are staying in is 4 or 5 star, but here you will have your bed changed and room cleaned. The balcony towards the sea is comfortable as well as rather charming to spend time at reading or just simply hanging out (2 cane chairs on offer). Bathroom are comfortable with soap (and bucket) on offer. The bed is firm but still comfortable, pillows medium soft (worked well for me despite always travelling with my own!). Lots of various lightning in the room. Working /desk area, sitting area...wardrobe and shelving system to put clothing, shoes etc.
Reception is not always attended so if you need assistant, try to grab anyone in the morning or before 21:00...

You have an Ayervedik Center at the back. Female therapist, male Doctor. Has to be pre-booked. Higher prices then average, never tried them however. Doctor is a younger guy with great English.

I stayed at this hotel 2 weeks with my 7 yr old daughter. Extremely pleased in many ways. Made my stay very comfortable and offered a good energy overall. Would highly recommend. (Feel free to message me if any further questions!)

You have Coffee Temple very nearby to the left (very decent coffee and juices, and especially Western food if tired of Indian...their spaghetti is nice ;), loved their home made cakes, especially the brownie.

I would also recommend the Golden Goose next door, jewellery store. Lots of variety, and a sale persons that does not force you to buy or make you want to leave after 1 min browsing. They also sell pashinas, postcards, dvd's and singing bowls. The store next to Coffee Temple is also worthwhile checking into. Otherwise I also highly recommend the Tibetan stores to the RIGHT of the hotel (there are two). In general the prices are high in Varkala, some of the things I purchased or had made, would have cost me the same in Australia...

There is no breakfast on offer nor a restaurant at this hotel. (For me this is not needed as I prefer to eat out anyway)

You have a new air-condition in your room (or simply choose to NOT), the fan is clean without dirt and dust..everything feels clean and fresh.
The WIFI worked very well.

I took a lot of photos and shared (not from my review however), hopefully it will give you a better general idea of the look and feel of the place.

Another note: You can sleep 3 in the bed (2 adults + 1 child)

Taxi to International airport cost me 1200R.

One of the best places on the North Cliff. The rooms are very spacious and neat. It could get a little noisy at night as there are so many restaurants around. Highly recommend the rooms with a sea view on the second floor.

I have visited along with my family in Oct month, Very friendly & rustic ,tropical hotel, right in front of the sea on the cliff and all the rooms offer a balcony with lovely views into the sea .very spacious and elegantly furnished rooms and very clean toilets. It was really a pleasant stay. I would especially thanks to Mr. Subash for the extended support to make our holiday memorable…

Very cozy place to stay facing the sea. The owners are very sweet. Cafes are near by and convenient. The place is decorated beautifully and kept very neat. WiFi is available. The budgets rooms are not that great but the other ones are awsome. This is the first resort on the cliff. Very accessible. Parking is available.

This resort is so beautiful and it's super Instagram worthy. If you are looking to have a great vacation like me and wants to stay in a clean, architecturally beautiful place, pick this one.
I have stayed here and other location around 4 times and I have always recommended this place to my friends visiting from Canada.

The room is closer to the sea. View is really good. The room is clean and well maintained. Thanal North has the best view. Worth the money.

Well maintained boutique resort.. very near to varkala helipad.. please note that the budget rooms are away from the helipad but having better view.. But the premium rooms are much better kept and easily accessed if you have your own car

It was bad food in my life. But best rooms .I went on luxurious car that time a car came ant hit on my car. I was on hospital for 3days. The toilet flush won't work properly in time.

Rooms are very spacious and there's car parking as well.You can get a very nice view of the beach from the rooms.I had a really good time here.Its very accessible to the beach as well,rooms are well maintained and neat.Only drawback is that there's no restaurant in here but its not something to worry about as there are plenty just outside.If you are coming by car drive through the small road which is accessible from the Varkala helipad to get here because Google map shows cars cant be accessed.

It was a beautiful peaceful place to spent your holidays. The only draw back was that they don't have a restaurant there. But still so many restaurants very near to it. So it wasn't hard for us to find place to eat.

Good location and just 50m from helipad, neat and tidy rooms and good service, but care taker was disrespectful sometimes

Gud hospitality... Gud rooms... Most of all Sea view from the balcony.. It was an awesome experience....Gud luck team... I recommend the place...

Well maintained boutique resort.. Just near varkala helipad.. try to book directly and carry cash as no card payments and payments via mmt etc are not taken

Awesome place to stay !!! I recommend everyone to take a day off , go there , stay there for at least one day , enjoy the cliff .. walk around the beach .. breathtaking shots
