Thousand Pillars

What power the sculptures were having then to craft such a beautiful monumental structure.
The presiding deity inside this hall is Natarajar. Very finely carved columns on both sides of the hall, fills the heart with joy.
This place is striving as museum also.
A rich heritage is passed on to us to feel proud.

One of the tourist attraction depicting our ancient culture and all round developments of Pandya kings whose capital was Madurai.
As the name suggested this Mandapam has approximately 1000 pillars.
Exactly 985 Big pillars and 22 small pillars which produce musical notes are seen here. Very rare sculptures of Gods and Goddesses with ancient yalis, sculptures and warring animals, rare to see Manmadan and Rathi, Veerabadrar, Chockanathar, Natrajar etc are significant ones.
It is a must visit museum with a very nominal fees.

One of the best architectures of the world. It is maintained by the architecture department of Tamil Nadu, they charge minimum of ₹5 for Indians also less for foreigners. It consists of many wonderful statues and ancient paintings. Located inside of Meenakshi Amman temple.

We were taken aback by the spiritual aura that surrounded the property, providing an inviting and peaceful atmosphere.

Tip *Do check for its timing, we were lucky enough to enter the place at closing moment in mid day, it closes for few hours.
Though I forget the time of close & open.*

The largest mandabham in the holy Meenakshi Amman temple. This Mandapam is situated near veeravasantharayar mandapam to the north. This was built by visvanatha naikar in 1569. This Mandapam consist of 985 pillers. This pillers where arranged in such away that from where angle we look it looks in rows and rows. At the center of the Mandapam there is a statue of lord natrajar.
The pillers at the beginning and the end of the row are big ones with smaller circular blocks and one at the bottom could be rolled. These pillers are called musical pillers and they create music when we tap on them.....this is interesting...and a very nice place ...every one should visit this place....
