This temple is located on Western Bank of Vandiyur Mariyamman Teppakulam, one of the largest temple tanks in Tamilnadu. The temple was constructed by Muthu Veerappa Nayak who ruled Madurai before the famous King, Thirumalai Nayak.
This temple showcases the engineering advancement we had during that period. During particular 12 days in a year in both March and September months. During those periods, the Sun rays pass through three openings on the tower at the centre of Teppakulam and then fall on three holes on the temple roof through which it will fall on Siva Linga at the Sanctum Sanatorium. It's a really mesmerizing experience for devotees and admiring experience for Engineers on how accurately they have calculated the time, sun movement and designed this.
You can witness this spectacular experience now also in March and September months during early morning at 6'O clock.

Note: I'm very happy that my house is near to this Engineering Marvelous Temple

Sri Muktheeswarar Temple, also known as Thirukkollikadu Temple, is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in the town of Thirukkollikadu in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is considered one of the Vaayu Stalams, which are a group of eight temples associated with the celestial wind god Vayu.

According to Hindu mythology, Vayu, also known as the god of wind, was once cursed by Lord Vishnu and had to perform penance to seek his forgiveness. He came to Thirukkollikadu and built a lingam, or a representation of Lord Shiva, to worship him. Lord Shiva was pleased with Vayu's devotion and appeared before him, granting him his wish.

The temple is famous for its exquisite architecture, which dates back to the Chola period. The main deity of the temple is Lord Muktheeswarar, a form of Lord Shiva who is believed to grant salvation or moksha to his devotees. The temple also houses several other deities, including Goddess Soundarya Nayaki, Lord Vinayaka, and Lord Murugan.

The temple is considered a significant pilgrimage site for Hindus, especially those seeking spiritual liberation. Devotees often perform special rituals and offerings to the deities here in the hope of receiving blessings and achieving their goals.

Overall, Sri Muktheeswarar Temple is an important religious and cultural landmark in Tamil Nadu and a popular destination for tourists and pilgrims alike.

Worth to visit on these days Sivarathiri, Teppa tiruvizha and on a specific day the sun rays will fall exactly on Siva lingam.

Except these days there won't be much crowd except pradhosam.

Lovely place to visit, divine and relaxing. The only thing that you needed to be very careful about was this place filled with mice, mice digs plenty of holes and romes all over the temple.
I won't harm anyone unless you disturbed it.
This temple has his own unique significance, so you can definitely enjoy it.
