Shree Arulmigu Vandiyur Mariamman Temple

Beautiful ....boating available to reach temple. Only in evenings allowed. We visited early morning and night...hence closed.

At a distance of 5 Kms from Madurai Junction Railway Station (on NH 49, towards the banks of Vaigai river), Vandiyur Mariamman Temple is built in the memory of Lord Vigneshwara.
It is a popular temples near Madurai city.
Mariamman Shrine is the prime shrine, the temple has also goddess Pechi ammam and Lord Ganesh beside a Peepul tree.
It is an ancient temple which is 2000 years old.
The moolavar here is Mari Amman and the sacred water is the theppakulam.
It has a huge tank in the compound of the temple and is the biggest tank in the region of Tamil Nadu.
The tank is filled with water all year long and the idol of the temple too was obtained from the bottom of the tank, while it was dug in the olden times and hence the temple was constructed at that place itself.
So the tank gained its popularity since then and the temple too was constructed in its memory.
Festival:
On Thaipusam, float festival is conducted in Teppakulam(tank) in a colourful way, which attracts thousands of tourists.
In the month of mid-March to mid-April (Pankuni, twelfth month of Tamil calendar) the grand annual festival is celebrated for continuous ten day.
Float festival is conducted in the month of Jan/Feb in the tank in a colourful way, which attracts thousands of tourists.

Well maintained pond. You are allowed to go boating there, unfortunately it was too hot in the afternoon and we skipped the boating.
Beautiful sight from the side of the pond though

It’s good .. we can’t travel to pond center place but visited near by temple of the amman .. felt blessing
