Maariamman Kovil Teppakulam

It was an absolutely fantastic experience visiting this beautiful lake during my recent solo motorcycle ride to Tamil Nadu.

I visited it after Meenakshi Temple to soak in the vibes of Madurai amidst all the hustle bustle. And I experienced all of it!

I enjoyed a long walk around the lake, it was almost 5 kms long. The crowd was enjoying the vibes just like me.

It's definitely a must visit place for everyone visiting Madurai.

Wonderful place to be in the evening to sunset. Evening breeze makes it even prettier. We visited on weekday and there is no crowd at all. It’s easy to get vehicle from or to Madurai due to its popularity.

We went to this temple , evening time. There was no provision to go inside temple . We sat some time banks of the pond. Lot of visitors and lot of small time snacking place near by.

This is awesome place in Madurai... This is like a Marina Beach for Madurai Peoples... This place is looking much greater now after having water inside so everyone has to visit here to have better time... I'm pretty sure this place gives u a happiness that you are looking for!

Peaceful place with two famous temple near. Mariamman temple and Muktheeswarar Temple. Nice place to walk and enjoy your evening time with family. Saturday and Sunday is always very rush with snacks stalls like soup, masala puri, pani puri, boli stall, fast food like fried rice , french fries, noodles, ice cream, fruit salad with ice cream, and good entertainment for kids like ball pit, kids train, Ratinam and Horse Ride.

One of the scenic place located in Madurai. The place theppakulam, Theppa means a small boat made out of bamboo or similar materials, kulam meaning Pond was built during the regime of the Nayakas.

The pond gets its water from the river Vaigai. The water path also was channelized during the Nayakas rule.

The theppotsavam, also known as the float festival attracts scores of people from Madurai and surrounding villages and is one the eye catching event in Madurai after the Chitrai festival.

On 11.02.2024 was at Madurai to attend a marriage near the Mariamman Temple.
Whenever visiting Madurai for personal commitments took time to visit temples.
The temple is on Kamaraj Salai just opposite to Teppakulam.
Very easily approachable. Just 4 kms from Mattuthavani bus stand.
Even though it is Sunday there was less crowd
We had a very easy dharshan of Amma . Devotees are offering Pongal made there it self and offered to Amma by those whose prayers were being fulfilled.
It is a small temple under the administrative control of Meenakshi Amman Temple.
Well maintained.

Beautiful tank with temple at centre. Its a super place foe entertainment and time passing at evening with fam members. Lotz and lotz of shops are there for play, snack, dinner.

Best place for entertainment but only in evening time... especially boat rides...but there is no place for shelter during sunny days...

It’s a huge pond and people play cricket inside. It’s a good place. Mornings times are good for jogging around. Inside the pond there’s a small temple like structure, a calm place.

Temple is open noon also. Opposite to Theppakulam. Must visit temple in Madurai.

Nice place to hangout with friends. One of the best place in madurai. Now a days more entertainment factors are here.. if you want a peaceful conversation with your friends, avoid main road side and anupanadi connection road and sit other two sides of the theppakulam.

If you like boat raiding you can visit day time. If you want eat different type of snacks you must visit night time. I reffer you to visit this place only on night time.

One of the best tourist spot in Madurai, situated near Anupaanadi, at a distance of about 2 km from Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple.The beauty is the centre Mandapam situated in the centre of the Teppakulam. This Centre Mandapam shadow will not fall on the ground. During Thaipusam, theppotsavam (god will boating in this pond ) will be celebrated grantly.
