Nilgiri District private Library

A place time stands still
A good friend suggested this place to me when I was planning a trip to Ooty . I suffer in crowded public places . Though the library was in the heart of the city , it had no visitors . The manager was very helpful and I could spend a few hours here . Lovely collection of books and Artefacts. Will go back for more soon

Amazing place, the interiors are great, still has that historic vibes. All wooden shelf and ladder, good varieties of books. Friendly staffs.

Am a Life Member & consider this c. 160 year old Library an unique jewel of the Nilgiris.Housed in its own splendid building designed by the great Robert Fellowes Chisholm, a pioneer of Indo Gothic. Run with great dispatch & efficiency by my friend Ram Nambiar Hon Sec (he & the staff keep the building & books in great condition).

I was invited to this beautiful Library while birding in the area in 1994! Gave conservation advice to staff, notes in visitors book I think, regards Anna Hornstein Whitehead

Located near Ayyappan Temple, Hospital Road, Ootacamund. Library is maintained very well. Best place to spend time to gain knowledge through books, magazines and newspapers.

Beautiful and calm place..Good collection of colonial works

Good library and is well maintained. The library has also updated all its books.It also has a kids section for reading.

The old but gold...

It is set in a British style bunglow. A wonderful large reading room with Vintage chairs and newspaper reading desks. A huge collection of fiction and non fiction books. The ficton ones are dated from 1970 and the non fiction from 1700. There is a section in the first floor where real old books are kept. One needs to be a member to enjoy it's benefits. Only members are allowed inside the library. Not open for public. There is sufficient car parking. This library takes you back in time to the British era.

So peaceful place of learning.
