Situated inside the Darjeeling zoo this place is difficult to find. Though a large amount of people visit the zoo a limited population visits this institute and the museum inside it. Mountaineering enthusiasts and history buffs would love this place. The institute offers various courses on mountaineering and details can be obtained from their website. The museum houses the original equipments used by Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hilary during the first ever ascent of the mount Everest. It also has iconic pictures and can educate one on the evolution of mountaineering equipments.

Excellent institute for those who would like to know more about mountaineering. The Institute is well maintained. There is an indoor climbing area where one can try a bit and see how difficult it is to be a mountaineer. Inside the institute, there is a well maintained museum which exhibits various tools used by mountaineers. Also, many tools and gadgets used by great mountaineers are exhibited. The tomb of Tensing Norgay is in this institute. Photography is not allowed inside the museum. Also various maps and statistics are exhibited here which provide immense knowledge to people who are interested in mountains and mountaineering. Many tools used by earlier mountaineers can be seen here. There is a shop here which sells caps, gloves, and other items at a reasonable price. Very nice place which provides information and give us a glimpse of the history of mountaineering. All should try to visit this place at least once. The authorities should be given a big salute for maintaining the place in such an excellent condition.

This place is a must visit, if you are staying in darjeeling.
The zoo is well kept and has many different animals, including of course the red panda.
The mountaineering museum is also definitely worth a visit. I especially liked the comparison they showed between different eras of climbing and how the gear progressed.

Its one of the most famous institute in the whole of India, they have course like adventure, basic and advance, all the instructions are well qualified, the major attraction is that this inside the zoo, and also the director was the famous man Tenzing Norgay Sherpa the first man to climb Mt. We visited to see this place. This is the place of courage and world records. It consists of Artificial Rock Climbing, Museum which have all the things for climbers and mountaineers. Nice place.

Amazing Place to be. If you are a mountaineering enthusiast, then must visit the Himalayan museum. Ages old Everest expeditions along with the Tenzing Norway, the first campainer to be there, has been preserved with proper care

Himalayan Mountaineering Institute established at jawahar parbat, darjeeling. Tenzing Norgay became the first Director of Field Training of the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute in darjeeling , when it was set up in 1954. Inside there is Tenzing Memorial, musuem, tenzing rock, The popular slogan is May (You) Climb From Peak To Peak. This Institute is inside Padmaja Naidu Zoological Park. So if you visit zoo then must visit HMI. Also in the same area Bengal Natural History Musial is situated.
