The idea for an #AngloIndian school was conceived way back in 1823, yes 200 years ago, to meet the needs of the British and Anglo-Indian communities in Calcutta.
The school was originally set up in the city of joy itself on Park Street.

It moved to #Darjeeling in 1863 to an estate purchased for a ₹45,000 roughly about $550. Later it expanded and moved to #JalPahar where it now stands, strong and stately.

Today, number 1 in Bengal and among the leading schools in india, it is home to over 750 students from all over the world.

It's the best school in the continent. This school has a glorious past that superseded it's beauty. The nature and scenic view of this school is breathtaking. It's situated at the top of the Jalapahar in Darjeeling district. Students from each corner of the country as well as from abroad come here for study. The education system and the disciplined life they give builds a child's future. The infrastructure is very nice as seems like a British castle and the shape of the buildings is very nice to watch. It was my dream to visit st. Paul because I am a big srk fan and main hoon na movie. I enjoy here a lot. I recommend every one who wants to see anything amazing to visit st. Paul once 😀

My nephew attends this school. The academic qualities are excellent. I'm a US citizen and have young kids. I'm considering sending my youngest to that school only issue is mandatory Bangla Lagange in the curriculum.

It was conceived in 1823 by an Anglo-Indian from Calcutta — John William Ricketts — to meet the educational needs of the growing British and Anglo-Indian community in Calcutta.

The first building was set up in Calcutta as The Parental Academic Institution by Ricketts. It’s been through several name changes since then — Grammar School, then The High School and was housed in various locations in Park Street and in Chowringhee, roughly where the Indian Museum now stands. The school moved to Darjeeling in 1863 and is currently situated in Jalapahar estate, which was purchased from a Mr Brian Hodgson for INR 45,000.

With the mighty Kanchenjunga as the backdrop, St Paul’s is said to be the second oldest educational institute in the country (and possibly the oldest residential school in Asia). It has a long and checkered history — the boys here have been sent to fight in both the first and second World Wars (there are plaques in the chapel with their names). The architecture and the location makes it stand out — probably the reason why it has been the location for many movie shoots, from the iconic Raj Kapoor film Mera Naam Joker to the more recent Main Hoon Naa and Barfi.

Since the runaway success of the film, Main Noon Na, we hear teenagers from as far as Mumbai have enquired about cut-off marks thinking this was a college as portrayed in the film. It’s a school, guys!

I had my most memorable years of schooling here from 1999-2005. The best boys school according to me. The variety of sports,traditions,food,the view of the Kanchenjunga behind the chapel or from the lower field on a clear day is simply breathtaking.It is one of the oldest institutions in India comprising of students from Nepal,Bangladesh, all parts of India. Their are houses in all the 3 Wings Primary classes(1-5), Junior (6-8) & Senior Wing (9-12) named after great achievers and legends from different walks of life. The Annual sports day is one of it's kind with field and track events. The 15th August NCC parade is also an event that is cherished by the current students every year. It is also situated right at the top of the hills of Darjeeling as the Army Cantonment resides above the school. The discipline and decorum along with the inspiring teachers is state of the art. There is also a Canteen called Blackies which is only accessed by the Senior and Junior Wing boys. Adventure is also a part of the school curriculum with expeditions, trekking and other activities around the year. The Paulites as they are referred to are also known as the Chhatawalas as the carrying of an umbrella during town leaves on Sundays is a tradition that has been maintained since years. The Old Paulite association is the alumni that is spread around different countries around the World is a proud organisation as the school boasts about it.
