Nathmal Ki Haveli

Beautiful architecture, intricate carvings. A must visit when in Jaisalmer. I recommend taking your time reading the descriptions in each room.Definitely go to the roof to see the entire haveli. Steep steps which are a tad bit claustrophobic, something to consider while taking senior citizens.

This Nathmal Ji ki haveli was commissioned to serve as the residence of Diwan Mohata Nathmal, the then Prime Minister of Jaisalmer. Maharawal Beri Sal commissioned the construction of this Haveli. The architects of this haveli were Hathi and Lulu who were brothers. There is an interesting story regarding this Haveli construction. It is said that the two brothers started building different facets of haveli simultaneously. In those days there were no such instruments, which could keep a track on continuity and thus when this building came up finally it had an irregular shape. There are two Elephants made of yellow stone. These life-size replicas have been put in front of the main entrance so that it looks as if they are guarding the Haveli. There are also pictures engraved on pillars and walls. These consist of Horses, Cattle, and depiction of Flora among other things. But the most interesting aspect of this haveli is the drawing of modern amenities such as cars, fans. It is a tourist delight to visit and see its architecture.

The Haveli has such intricate architecture, it stands as a proof for extraordinary artisan work. One side of the mahal is subtly different to the other side as it was architected by two brothers that decided to pick either side to make it look alike however incorporating subtle differences.

This place is a hidden gem! While you're walking through the narrow streets of Jaisalmer filled with remnants of recent construction works, this haveli will suddenly pop right in front of your eyes! Try to capture the whole haveli in one frame. You're definitely gonna need an ultrawide lens with a huge FOV.

Long ago, the brothers competed with each other to build this palace, which was repeatedly enlarged and remodeled.
It is fun to compare the differences between the left and right sides.

This is one another magnificent Haveli in Jaisalmer which is a must visit. The people are living here so the first floor is not accessible to public, it's a private area. The outer architecture will make you in wow. I went in and had a look at the unique art work pieces in display but we cannot take photograph of those.

My suggestion is to have a walk around the city starting from Nathmal Ki Haveli, Patwon ki Haveli and ending with Salam Singh Ki Haveli.

Truly magnificent work of architecture. A private property built by the minister since the 1800s and currently used by his two sons has equal share of left and right side of this building. One can see the difference in art and style of stone carvings from left to right on every floor depicting the ornaments, women wore at that time.

Free entry to this beautiful ancient home. The owner is amicable and offers to show you around the room available for viewing as this is also a private home. They also have a gift store in case you feel like getting something for yourself or for friends. The range is quite varied and prices seemed reasonably fair. A great stop on your daily tour route!

NATHMALJI KI HAVELI – The late 19th century haveli with intricate architecture – a disploay of sheer craftsmanship. The left and right wings of the mansion which were carved by two brothers are not identical but very similar and balanced in design. The interior walls are ornate with splendid miniature paintings.

Old building with complex design architecture from outside. Currently, the 7th generation of Nathmal is still living there, and they have small tourist shops. Tourists come to see the building from outside, and it is not allowed to see Haveli 's internal.

There is many many havelis in jaisalmer, patwa haveli,nathmal haveli,salam singh ki haveli, all havelis are very beautiful with yellow jaisalmer stone work (nakkashi) art of jaisalmeri famous nakkashi, nathmal haveli is much old but it's most visible place of jaisalmer.
