Kuthiramalika Palace Museum or Puthenmalika Palace Museum was built by Swathi Thirunal Rama Varma in 18th century is located a few yards away from the eastern entrance of Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple. The palace got its name from the figures of 122 horses carved in teak wood in a unique pattern that support the southern roof.

It’s a large complex of royal buildings was left unoccupied for more than a century, following the demise of Maharaja Swathi Thirunal in 1847. Now just 20 rooms of palace are opened for public as museum. All the rooms have different types of ceilings, carved in wood, small beautiful floral decorations are made along the upper edges of the walls. The roof of the palace on the ground floor is supported by granite pillars and the floor of the palace is made of egg whites, black charcoal of coconut shell and slaked lime, which make it cool and smooth even in hot summer.
The exhibits of the museum constitutes mainly wooden Kathakali figures, Portraits of the Travancore royalties, Paintings (by Raja Ravi Varma and other renowned artists) Dozens of Swords, daggers, darts, knives, spears, weapons made of horns of antelopes with metal tips, shield made of rhinoceros skin, Ivory throne of Swathi Thirunal, Crystal-glass throne of Visakom Thirunal (gift received from Czekoslovakia), Bronze sculptures of Chola styles which belongs to 10th to 14th century AD. Idols of Krishna, Rama and Anjaneya. Very rare Wooden/ marble/ stone sculptures of different styles and period, made in various parts of our country and ivory cradles, large number of non-Indian exhibits are also included in the fabulous collections.
Kuthiramalika palace also has a unique Navarathri Mandapam in front of the palace, which hosts many concerts, and other important events. Makers of the palace - Maharaja Swathi Thirunal Balarama Varma was the King of Travancore, who happens to be a great poet, musician, social reformer, and statesman. The palace has a unique architecture with wood carvings, a typical Travancore style of architecture. In the palace, there's a museum which displays paintings and various priceless collections of the royal family.

A must visit museum in Trivandrum. Very near to padmanabha Swami temple. Cost of one ticket is 70- for the museum and 30- for art gallery. Guide service is provided free of cost. Its name comes from the smiling horses on the sides of the palace. It has many artefacts like weapons, utensils, etc. it's a 200yr old palace of Maharajas of Travancore. Only 20 out of 80 rooms are open to public. I couldn't take photos inside the museum as it's costing rs.500 and I was running out of time

This is located in the east Noida on the way of the alley leading to the temple. In total one has to buy a ticket for ₹100. This will allow into this main museum along with a smaller museum after this. The royal family of Travancore has many artefacts kept in this place which was used as residential as well as a guesthouse back in the days. Once you buy ticket to this, you will be grouped and there will be one person who will guide you alongside. Please be mindful that photography inside strictly prohibited. One can however, have mobile photography done by taking an extra ticket of ₹50. The tour itself inside is very insightful and offers great learning into the lifestyle of the royal family. This is highly recommended for people who visit the temple to take two hours out and also take a tour of this museum

Even though all rooms are not open to public, it is still the best palace open to public.
Lot of precious collection, ivory, wonderful architecture, Chinese gifts, Belgium crystal lamps etc.
It is still under a trust and not under the government.
Entry fee is there and in addition, special charge of Rs 20 should be also given for photography outside.
Free guide is available.

The palace is turned into a museum. This shows the lifestyle of the kings. Precious articles made in sandal, ivory, bronze are on display.
The roof is made in red sandal wood in different patterns.
The place is quite tough in the heart of the city. Lush green gardens outside the palace.
A guide will accompany the visitors in groups and explain.
Tickets for palace museum is Rs 70.00.

Very beautiful museum just next to temple, entrance is exactly opposite to cloak room and can be missed. Will recommend to visit if visiting temple. It is basically royal palace of Raja Varma converted to museum. It houses gifts and highly unique royal objects like porcelain jars, paintings, weapons, pooja items. The staff provides tour and explains very well about significance of each section.
