"സ്വാ കാരോച്ചാര മാത്രേണ
സ്വാകാരം ദീപ്യതേ മുഖേ
മകാരാന്ത ശിവം പ്രോക്തം
ഇകാരം ശക്തി രൂപ്യതേ"

`സ്വാമി ശരണ'ത്തിലെ
സ്വാ എന്ന പദം ഉച്ചരിക്കുന്ന മാത്രയിൽ പരബ്രഹ്മത്താൽ തിളങ്ങുന്ന `ആത്മ'ബോധം തീർഥാടകന്റെ മുഖത്തു പ്രതിഫലിക്കണം.

മ സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്‌ ശിവനേയും ഇ ശക്തിയേയുമാണ്‌. രണ്ടുംകൂടി ചേർന്ന്‌
മി ആകുമ്പോൾ `ശിവശക്തി' സാന്നിധ്യമാകുന്നു. ശിവശക്തി മുൻപറഞ്ഞ `സ്വാ'യോടൊപ്പം ചേർന്നു തീർഥാടകന്‌ ആത്മസാക്ഷാത്‌ക്കാരം നേടാൻ സഹായിക്കുന്നു. ജീവാത്മാവിന്റെയും പരമാത്മാവിന്റെയും ഐക്യത്തെ സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ `സ്വത്വ'ത്തിന്റെയും പരമാത്മാവിന്റെയും സാംഗത്യവും ഈ ശബ്ദം സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.

`ശരണം' എന്ന വാക്കിലെ ആദ്യാക്ഷരമാ ശ ഉച്ചാരണ മാത്രയിൽ തന്നെ ശത്രുവിനെ ഇല്ലാതാക്കുന്നതാണ്‌. അഗ്‌നിയെ ജ്വലിപ്പിക്കുന്ന ര എന്ന അക്ഷരം ജ്ഞാനത്തെ സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.
ണം ശബ്ദം ഇതിനെല്ലാറ്റിനും ദൈവികത കൈവരുത്തി ശാന്തി പ്രദാനം ചെയ്യുന്നു.
