The Kandaswamy swamy temple at Park Town is most popularly known as Kandakottam and is one of the old and famous temples among the Chennaites. Now the area is extremely commercial and busy. No parking is available. The temple tank is located just behind the shrine but no access for devotees. Kanda shasti vizha is celebrated with great grandeur in this temple. Moorthy siriyathu but keerthi romba periyathu.

Beautiful ancient Lord Murugan temple. Temple was open until 12:10pm on a weekday (Friday). Been here countless no.of times when in my childhood days. Lord Murugan idol is small and very beautiful 🤩 😇.
Car parking and two wheeler parking is not possible. Try to park car/bike near Ethirajulu Naidu. You can spend 30 minutes here and take rest sitting near the temple pond 😍. Highly recommended if you are in Chennai or visiting Chennai.

It's a divine place set in the middle of traffic distractions and narrow roads but has an Old Madras charm of its own. To be part of the Divine plan for that day and to be present there (no matter where one comes from) to get a darshan of Lord Muruga is worth everything. The different forms of Lord Muruga sculpted on the temple walls and the many sannidhis within the temple radius plus the saravana poigai lake all seem to have a mind silencing vibe and come as a prayer answered without us having to ask for something/some wish to be fulfilled. Historically rich and an important step in so many Siddhars and Tamil poets' spiritual journey as evidently seen in Kandhakottam walls, it's a beautiful journey for us normal humans as well to come closer to God.

One of the old temple in chennai bussiest area. Lord kandhaswamy (murgan) along with valli and devanai is main deity and he is divine and powerful. A big pond is in the temple. This pond never get dried even during the water scarcity period in chennai, lot of fishes you can see in the pond. Very ancient & powerful temple. Here many saints like Kumarakuruparar are worshipped for Lord Muruga. Vallalar worship daily during his young life.

Parking is the biggest problem here. Better you can catch auto from either cental and highcourt metro station. In and around lot of traditional tamil herbal products are available also lot of utensils shops are available.
