The bishop of Christian Catholic religion lives here. So it's a private place. The building is iconic and inspired by Victorian architecture. It was built during the colonial period and it's a beautiful example of that era's craftsmanship and quality work. One of the entrances is from Hill cart road, next to the taxi stand. And it is right below St. Robert's Higher Secondary School.

Place where the catholic bishop resides in Darjeeling. Beautiful architecture and a peaceful atmosphere.
The Roman Catholic church is the oldest institution in the world and traces its history back to Jesus Christ- Our Saviour and the Apostles. As for Darjeeling the Church dates back to 1846, when the Irish Loreto Sisters came to Darjeeling. Along the way The Roman Catholic Diocese of Darjeeling has carved history for itself, from the footprints of our beloved Saint Teresa of Calcutta, Fr. Rebecca Singh, Fr. Victor Khawas,  Fr. Edward George McGuire, Fr. Joseph Abraham Murray,  Fr. Edgar Burns touching lives and making a difference a reflection of Hebrews 13:16 “Keep doing good works and sharing your resources, for these are the kinds of sacrifice that please God”.

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Darjeeling has come a long way from its advent way back almost two centuries ago. Today, The Roman Catholic Diocese of Darjeeling consists of two districts of Kalimpong, Darjeeling along with the Kurseong subdivision of Darjeeling District, State of Sikkim and the country of Bhutan.

It was erected on 8th August, 1962 when Rt. Reverend Bishop Eric Benjamin DD became the first bishop. It was formed by separating Darjeeling District from the Church of Calcutta, and joining it to the Prefecture Apostolic of Kalimpong-Sikkim. In November 1997, the Church of the Siliguri subdivision of Darjeeling District was separated from The Roman Catholic Diocese of Darjeeling to form The Roman Catholic of Bagdogra.

Bishop's House is actually a private property. The place is located just beside the road. From the gate towards the main building it is quite an uphill climbing. But inside there one can experience colonial era architecture and a variety of plants. The place is calm and serene on a bright day a good part of the hills and Kanchenjunga peaks are visible from here.
