An iconic royal palace with long time of history, still now is a one of the famous empire lead by Sultan as descendant of his ancestor who lead this monarchy since before the birth Republic of Indonesia. Now as a special region with many history, culture, and legacy to keep and protect, the royal palace opened to introducing it's wisdom and show how everything works inside and the secret behind the walls. Entering the palace's like traveling with time machine to the past, everything and everybody work inside still wearing, talking and do thing like old time though not all of them cuz modernity came like nothing can stop it. Some place was restricted and not allowed to pass or enter consider how sacred and important or historical event that happen long time ago, also for the rituals and ceremonies to welcome honorable guest like royal family, head of the state, prime minister or important guest. Many heritage buildings and equipment well preseved, museum with many collection from different era and how it uses, how they live and what act in their time including anything changes. Remember to follow the rules inside the museum such as not taking picture in certain place, do not touch the collection, no food and drinks inside, keep calm, and keep distance with collection. Inside we will accompanied by royal servant (abdi dalem), they will guide about the place, tell us about what allowed or not and free to ask about the collection or the history, sometimes story telling about their life, job, or family. Huge gate, decorative ornament, javanese architecture, traditional music instrument, artistic items, sacred thing, ceremony and rituals equipment, very detail works of art, quiet, clean, and cerene with many trees and vegetation. To entering the palace, first had to buy a ticket and don't forget to follow important rules like keep quiet, take off ur hat, don't use stroller and umbrella and get dress modestly (no need to covering ur hair or head for a women). To access or location beware for the scam that offering by bunch of locals because it's very easy to reach the location. First, use any transportation u can afford like by online, rent, or public by directing to the location and don't forget to pay as showing on apps with no extra except if u want to gave some tip then do as u please but if ur driver ask more or act rude then leave. I suggest to came early cuz of weather changing fast, sometimes too hot at noon or raining towards afternoon, so came at 8am considering the place will closed at 2pm and as i remember it's open from Tuesday to Sunday so they off at Monday. Ticket is selling with different price following kind of tourist, for domestic had to pay IDR.15.000 for adult (13 y above) and IDR.10.000 for kids (below 12 y). For international tourist had to pay IDR.25.000 for adult (13 y above) and IDR.20.000 for kids (below 12 y),after buying ticket we got to wear ribbon as a mark for guest. There's 3 location at the time to visiting while at the location, namely Kedhaton or The Palace like i mention above, the Wahanarata (Royal Carriage) which is not visiting yet, then The Taman Sari (Royal Leisure Garden). Follow for more updated, Happy holidays.!

It's a must visit place in Yogyakarta. The entire complex is beautiful. There is a museum with photograph of the royal weddings and clothes which is interesting to see. There is huge hall in the middle where singers sing and musicians play the traditional instruments throughout the day. In between there is dancing too by the dancers in their traditional attire. The expression on the face and the delicate hand movements is a treat for the eyes. Enjoyed my trip thoroughly.

This is a place that I have wanted to visit for a long time and finally I had the opportunity to visit one of the must-visit places in the city of Jogja.
Besides that, here you can learn history and enjoy performances in the in the huge hall. Inside, there is a museum with various collections and items of relics of previous kings.
And, the building is very magnificent, well maintained, and the Abdi dalem's are very friendly with tourists.

In Yogjakarta there lives the Sultan, HRH Hamengkubawono X.
The Palace is open for the public and is worth visiting however now there is a construction and not every part is accessible. Many pupils and students come here and are supported by local guides.
Servants of the Sultan are around also.
There is the main entrance and you will be helped by local guides to find it easily. Surely there are many who want to sell you transport or stuff, but that is part of the program 🤪

Keraton Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat (Keraton Jogja) is the official palace of the Sultanate of Yogyakarta. Built shortly after the Giyanti Agreement in 1755, Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono I as the first sultan was the one who headed the construction of this palace. Keraton Jogja, which symbolizes Javanese-Islamic architecture, remains the main residence of the Sultan of Jogja to this day and is one of the main tourist attractions in Yogyakarta.

A beautiful place to visit to see where the former Royal Family lives. The staff were amazing. One was nice enough to spend time to explain to me about the culture of the Palace.

The only drawback (not their fault) is that I got scammed IN the Palace by a lady who invited me to show me the hidden places (Royal kitchen, staff quarters). She showed me her ID badge which she claimed she was hired by the Palace so no need to pay any gratituity. She led to places where I'm 'encouraged' to see and buy the handmade batik paintings, 'wayang kulit' and coffee shop. She stayed with me in the coffee shop, got nervous when I told her I was expecting my friend and left immediately right after.

If you have chance then go Sundays. Between 10:00-13:00 in the Keraton are groups performing Javanese Dance-very impressive.

Amazing palace.

I visited the palace in Feb 2020, and I still remember it until today.

It is an ideal place to know Javanese culture, enjoy the traditional dance and gamelan.

In addition, a visitor can know the brave Sultan’s contribution in 1825-1830, and also can learn the importance role Yogyakarta played in struggling for the independence of Indonesia.

The entrance fee is just nominal, only 10k.

Everywhere is worth seeing, everyone behaves with courtesy.

Thanks Sultan’s family for providing us visitor such a good opportunity to have a good time in this palace in Yogyakarta.😊🙏

Although I'm Jogjakartan this is the 2nd time visiting Kraton after past 25 years. There's so many improvements. The tour guide is well-mannered and told the history of every single corner in Kraton. Due to cultural and local ethic reason there's some limitations such as visitor outfit and not all area could be entered. Just follow the guide instruction and everything would be good.

Amazing palace and culture that they displayed out.

Great place to experience the Javanese culture, enjoy the traditional dance and gamelan. Do come early! We reached at 10am and they performance just started. Recommended to stay throughout!

The entrance fee is around 10k for foreigners.

It is nice that the Sultan and his family allows locals and foreigners to have a good opportunity to be able to immerse into the Javanese culture! 💖

What an amazing experience stepping from the chaos, dirt and noise of downtown Yogyakarta into the spacious, ornate and peaceful grounds of the sultan's palace. Definitely a must see if you are ever visiting yogya. Go early 10am to see and hear a gamelan dance performance

Keraton Yogyakarta, also known as the Yogyakarta Palace, is a significant cultural and historical landmark in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Visiting the Keraton is like stepping back in time and immersing oneself in the rich Javanese heritage and royal traditions.

The architecture of the Keraton is awe-inspiring. The palace complex showcases a beautiful blend of Javanese and Dutch colonial architectural styles. The intricate carvings, grand halls, and elegant courtyards reflect the grandeur of Javanese royal palaces. As you explore the palace grounds, you'll come across various pavilions, museums, and traditional structures that provide insight into the rich history and culture of the region.

Inside the Keraton, you can witness the preservation of Javanese royal traditions. The palace serves as the residence of the Sultan of Yogyakarta, who still holds a revered position in the local community. Traditional ceremonies, dance performances, and cultural events are regularly held within the palace premises, offering visitors a glimpse into the royal customs and artistic heritage of Yogyakarta.

The museum within the Keraton houses a vast collection of royal artifacts, including ancient manuscripts, gamelan instruments, traditional costumes, and historical treasures. Exploring the exhibits provides a deeper understanding of the kingdom's history and the cultural significance attached to the royal family.

Visiting the Keraton is a truly enriching experience, but it's important to respect the palace's cultural norms and etiquette. Modest dress is required, and it is customary to remove your shoes before entering certain areas of the palace. Additionally, guided tours are available to provide a comprehensive understanding of the historical and cultural significance of the palace.

An incredible place to visit to learn about the culture, the history, and Yogyakarta's Kraton.
The spots inside can be explored with or without a guide.
Place watch out on the caution line since some spots are prohibited to be stepped on.

You also can follow (at)kratonjogja(dot)event on Instagram to see art performances on its "stage".
Worth to watch!

The Palace of Yogyakarta is a must stop when visiting the area. The palace is where the many Sultans over the years have resided. If you are lucky, you may have the opportunity to see the current Sultan's grandchildren walking around the grounds. Make sure you have water and stay to visit the live show

Nice visit but is not a woow activity. You can get a tour guide which will present a few facts you can tip him at the end. There is a mini museum inside which is quite interesting. The water castle is also walking distance so you can make both same day.

Historic places, sultan palace, and very insightful place. Cheap, clean, good architecture, and you can see traditional dance (depending on the show schedule you can see on their Instagram)
