Lillafüred State Forest Railway Adminisztraciò

Going by some of the reviews, I think there is much misunderstanding about this railway & the map pinpoint which is understandable. Maybe this might help someone... check days & times online that it runs. If you are a tourist & new to the area, find Végéllomás Bistro on Google maps (Végéllomás means "end station" or "terminus" in Hungarian) & take tram 1 from Miskolc to the Bistro - tram stop "LAEV" is right outside it. (Download Mobiljegy to get a tram ticket or tap on tram drivers door inside tram to pay cash) The train station & ticket office for the Railway is next door to the Bistro. In the ticket office they speak English & German. It is no problem to get a ticket. The train ride is absolutely brilliant. Sit on the right side of the train if you can. Takes you through the outskirts of Diósgyör & winds its way through the forest, over a large bridge & through a tunnel up to Lillafüred. The train takes 30 minutes to reach Lillafüred. Plenty to do once you get there. See the waterfall, the hanging gardens of the palace then go and row a boat out into the loch. Wonderful scenery. On the way back, Végéllomás Bistro is well worth a stop for an evening meal - it is Michelin recommended & fairly priced with nice outdoor terrace! 😊

This train ride is must! We enjoyed it very much and highly recommend it. Especially if you have kids.

Lovely routes and well maintained old trains. But the tickets are quite expensive

Very unique style of the wooden -open air train , running through the wood forests up to the hill . Most recommended

Fully renovated and - as others already shared - only going until Garadna. There is a pretty nice playground. For families with kids a nice round trip.

You can enjoy a beautiful trip with this train. It is going in the Bukk National Park from Miskolc to Felso hamor. On autumn it has only 5 or 6 ride only per day so you have to check out the timetable. If the weather is cold, in the cabin a fireplace gives you warm. For childrens it is the heaven :) And the for their parents too ;)

Worth the price and views. Sad that frequency is less.

Really enjoyed this train ride, it take approximately 40 minutes to get to the top. Beautiful views and lots of fun!

Worth viewing nice views of forest and lake

Amazinggggggg place to visit atleast once.
In miskolc some places are really full of natural beauty and tjis one is on top.
Just a bit of advice if you are an international thn please carry some snacks and drinks with you because there is lots of cafeteria but moat of them are little bit expensive and tasteless.

Amazing landscapes along the railway

I like this old wooden railway so much. Once it was a forestry railway but now only operates for tourists. You can also use it to reach starting points for tracking (note that route of bus line 15 runs alongside), but also just enjoy to travel in the forest. It operates all year around, all days around, but worth to visit its timetable on the website.

Beautiful tiny forest railway

Funny and enjoyable moments, slow train trough the city and national park up to Lilafüred place, recommended. Beautiful views during the ride and touch of nature.

Very cute little train that goes through a scenic forest. We stopped at the Lillafüred Castle which is like a Fairy Tale environment.
