Modern renovations, looks medieval and also modern and stable. The inside rooms are brilliant and from the rooftop all the city is visible. Interactive screens with diverse games inside, including a photography maker machine that sends you a postcard with your personal photo on e-mail on the spot. Worth the ticket!

Beautiful castle with an incredible feel. What made this worth the visit was the professional tour guide who played the part in traditional Knight costume. He delivered a knowledgeable brief passionately and answered questions thoroughly. Great day out! Looking forward to visiting when the jousting and other entertainment is on in the future!

Very nice castle. There are lot of different chambers to visit, especially I recommend this one with spices in which you can feel the smell of different herbs and etc. Staff is very friendly. In chambers you can find descriptions, some simple puzzle games and lot of different interesting things. Definitely you must visit if you're nearby Miskolc.

The catle with its expositions are in very good conditions offering a lot of facts and subjects well organized in rooms which are every of them focusing on some specific part of activity. Nice peace of history. Very professional staff. Highly recommend.

If you're in the Miskolc area this is definitely worth a visit. It's one of the nicest castles I've seen in Hungary; this medieval castle was a favourite holiday residence of Hungarian kings and queens.
The castle was renovated between April 2012 and 2014 and instead of a historic castle ruin, visitors can now visit an old, remodeled castle.
The castle features a special feature of informal cognition; the visitors can experience the atmosphere of the medieval castle freely, trying all of the things. In addition to the interactive content, reenactors dressed in timeless outfits, as well as spaces on the ground floor that showcase everyday life, contribute to the atmosphere.
As a quick reference for the origin of the name: Dió means walnut, referring to the abundant walnut trees in the area. Győr is an archaic version of the word gyűrű, meaning "ring". It probably refers to the rounded shape of the first castle erected on the hill.
The first castle was probably built in the 12th century, but destroyed during the Mongol invasion. The castle that stands today was most likely erected in the times of King Béla IV, in the 13th century.
The castle had its prime during the reign of Louis I (Louis the Great). In 1364 the nearby town Miskolc was annexed to the Diósgyőr estate. Diósgyőr lost some of its importance when the political union between Hungary and Poland ended.
In 1596, the Ottomans occupied the area; Diósgyőr remained under Turkish occupation, ruled by the Pasha of Eger until 1687, when this part of the country was freed from Turkish rule. By this time the castle lost all of its military importance.

Excellent program especially with children. The guided tour is fantastic. We got so many interesting historical info from history in an anecdotical form. The fortress/castle was repaired/renovated in 2013. Extra programs are also spectacular. E.g. knight demonstration. You may try archery....

I have been is many castles around Hungary, probably this is not in one of the most mystical places as it doesn't have a great view but once you are in and take a tour you understand the great attention to the details that the staff put into making history come alive throughout the years.

The renovations really make this look like it was kept in its final form. Beautifly placed in the Bükk area, it is no wonder it became a favorite of King Lajos (Louis) the Great.
The guides give a great presentation and a lot of detail into the times and the history of the castle. The next door jousting arena is also something to look at.

This castle from medieval went through a lot and despite of stormy history and hard periods been saved in a good condition for the visitors.
Outside a lot of parking lots available free of charge. The entry costs between 750-1500 HUF depending of your age and activities (if you're student etc.)
Inside you can find a permanent exhibition, wine shop, souvenir shop and an authentic coiner if you wish to get copy of an old coin and take it for memory.
The place is kid friendly and family friendly. Not only for history lovers.
Occasionally they organise knight tournaments and other different interesting activities for people of all ages.
Absolutely worth to visit.

Fantastic set up, like how you'd think it was in the old days, such a nice size castle not overly big so u don't feel exhausted after, just enough to enjoy the detail of every room and you can even try Knight armor and enjoy a local glass of wine while your there :-)

Seen only from outside as it is closed due reconstruction works. However, the sight is monumental.

Great place to spend a whole morning or afternoon. Different rooms where you can read information on touch screens in Hungarian and English. Games also available. Free tourist guides ever hour. Recommended for families with kids too. Nice restaurant with outside sitting just in the street opposite the entrance. Lovely views from the top, worth the climb.

Very nice castle to visit. Glad it was restored. We had a nice and pleasant guided trip (only available in Hungarian) that walked us through the history of Diósgyőri castle and Hungarian history as well. I enjoyed the visit and I recommend it.

The look on area around the castle is not so beautiful. Everything else: castle, rooms, guide, story and people; are very beautiful.

Beautiful castle, with many well furnished chambers. Tourist have access to one of the towers; only some Miskolc's blocks of flats a bit spoil the landscape therefrom, but it is not a big problem:) Definitely one of the best castles to visit in Hungary.

I like walking around the castle, great views over Miskolc.
I used to love seeing the castle but now with all the renovation work it doesn’t feel the same as original. I will pass judgement when it's ready.
