Casa Rosario Spanish School

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Casa Rosaria. I chose this school above the rest because I wanted a smaller scale, local oriented experience and that is exactly what I got. The entire experience felt customised to my personal needs and preferences, from the timing and content of lessons to the social activities.
I stayed for 2 weeks and my Spanish progressed immensely. My teacher Matao was incredible! He had an impressive ability to assess my existing level of spanish and gradually build on it with lots of conversation blended with grammatical theory. I really enjoyed discussing topics of interest with him and found it helped develop my Spanish quickly as I was passionate about learning what I wanted to say. The school setting in the gardens by the lake was a really calm environment for learning, and they have kayaks you can borrow!
The homestay was also a really special experience. The family quickly became my adopted family and I appreciated how patient and helpful they were with my Spanish. It was so wonderful to experience authentic Guatamalan culture, amazing food and local celebrations with the family. My room was very spacious, comfortable and had a nice view of the lake and mountains over the town.
The social activities with the school were also a highlight. Rather than the touristic commercial tours available in the area I got to experience personalised guided tours to learn about textile, chocolate, coffee and other traditional artisinal production, as well as salsa lessons and other sight-seeing opportunities.
Overall, I could not fault my experience with Casa Rosaria and I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone wanting a professional educational and authentic cultural experience.

I had the most valuable experience at this school. My teacher was fantastic and Matteo made sure I had everything I needed. They're the friendliest people and they set me up with the loveliest home stay. Couldn't recommend casa Rosario higher!

The best spanish school in all of San Pedro. We did not only greatly improve our Spanish skills, but after a week with our teachers we felt like they became friends and we learned a lot about the culture, problems and realities of Guatemala. The location is beautiful, and everyday we got some nice drinks and food. Value for money is tough to beat.

Thanks Mateo and the Gonzales family to having me for a week. I went there with some basis and with a lot of patient during my short staying I improved a lot. They really care about you. The rest is on you.

Best experience ever. Had such a wonderful time. Everything was pefect : the location on the lake, my very friendly and patient teacher, all the organisation. We even had some activities with the owner. Thank you Vicente, Matteo and Maria, I will never forget you.
If you want to learn spanish this is the best place to progress quickly, easily and with lot of fun !!!

My review was posted with another account by mistake so I'm posting it here again. I spent 2 weeks at Casa Rosario to learn Spanish and I loved it!

THE LOCATION
The school is located right next to Lake Atitlàn, in San Pedro La Laguna. The break is made with fresh fruit while admiring the beauty of the lake.

LOCAL FAMILY
In addition to the courses we have taken the homestay option to stay with a local family. We had a room and meals included. We felt really at home and immersed in the local culture.

ACTIVITIES
Vicente the boss of the school is super nice and offers activities included in the school price: kayaking, hiking, visits to chocolate factories and coffee plantations. In short, everything you need to keep up with your Spanish and keep practicing it.

THE COURSES
Classes were in the morning from 8:00 to noon. With a break around 10 am to taste fruit while looking at the lake. The lessons are individual and the teacher adapts to our level.

In short I recommend this school in San Pedro La Laguna! 😊

L'ENDROIT
L'école est située juste à côté du Lake Atitlàn, à San Pedro La Laguna. La pause se fait avec des fruits frais en admirant la beauté du lac.

FAMILLE LOCALE
En plus des cours nous avons pris l’option « homestay » pour être logés dans une famille locale. Nous avions une chambre et les repas inclus. On s’est sentis vraiment comme à la maison et immergés dans la culture locale.

ACTIVITÉS
Vicente le boss de l’école est super sympa et propose des activités incluses dans le prix de l’école : kayak, randonnées, visite de chocolateries et plantations de cafés. Bref tout pour ne pas s’ennuyer et continuer à pratiquer l’espagnol.

LES COURS
Les cours étaient le matin de 8h à midi. Avec une pause vers 10h pour déguster des fruits en regardant le lac. Les cours sont individuels et le prof s’adapte à notre niveau.

Bref je recommande cette école ! 😊

Vicente, the founder is super warm and welcoming !
The school proposes a all-inclusive package that includes a homestay in a local family with all meals included and a lot of different activities: kayaking on the lake, hiking with guids in the surrounding montains and volcans, visits of coffee or chocolate farms, artisan chocolate factory, weaving class in a women's cooperative, trip to the pacific, ...
The one-to-one classes are held in a beautiful lakefront garden and Vicente brings fruits from the market everyday that students and teachers can enjoy altogether during a break while comtemplating the amazing view on the lake !
The time that I had with the family was also very nice and has given me more time to practice my Spanish. I was there during Christmas and they welcomed me very friendly ! I learned how to cook tamales y tortillas. I also had a lot of fun time playing "el escondite"(hide-and-seek) with the kids of the family ! 😀

In short: I strongly recommend +++

I paid 1550 quetzal for a week.
It's possible to book in advance by email or just to go like this when you arrive.

We took 2 weeks of lessons here and we loved it! We stayed in a local family thanks to Vicente the founder of the school. I would definitely recommend! :-) It's perfect to learn spanish next to Lake Atitlàn, right in San Pedro La Laguna :-)

Going to Casa Rosario was the best i could do in Guatemala. Vincente is awesome and there are a lots of activities to do to have a taste of the Mayan culture. Teachers are also great and helpful to keep us progressing.

The oldest Spanish School in San Pedro la laguna (since 1992). It's the perfect way to immerse in the local culture and enjoy the atitlan lake while getting better in spanish. FIVE STARS!

Such a great experience with casa Rosario, the teacher was so kind and her Spanish classes was very good, the school is in a wonderful small garden in the nature, at 10am they provide fruits and tamales, I 100% recommend !

I studied at this amazing school for 3 weeks 3 years ago and have wanted to get back ever since. My Spanish was very good and I still remember a lot now. The teacher I had 20 hours one on one lessons with was amazing too, as well as the family I lived with. All this (with 3 meals a day, just Sunday off) was less than £100! Primero en todo el mundo! Muchas gracias mi segunda familia!

Une super école pour apprendre l’espagnol avec une vue magnifique sur le lac Atitlan.
J’y ai passé 3 semaines. L’après-midi, l’école organise des activités ou visites des villages alentours, peinture, fabrication de bracelets en cuir, visite d’une fabrique de cacao, d’une coopérative de tissage à la main, lever de soleil à l’indian nose le week-end, etc
L’école prête aussi des kayaks pour aller sur le lac quand vous le souhaitez.
Les professeurs et les personnes nous accompagnant aux activités sont au top et nous donnent plein d’informations sur le Guatemala et sa culture.
Je recommande aussi de rester en famille d’accueil pour encore mieux apprendre sur la culture locale. J’étais avec Conchita et sa famille qui sont vraiment au top et prennent bien soin de vous.
Allez y sans hésiter.

Plus qu’une école. Des gens passionnés et passionnants qui organisent plus que des cours: beaucoup d’activités proposées et possibilité de dormir chez l’habitant. Nous avions réservé 1 semaine et sommes restés 2 semaines tellement nous nous sentions bien. 1 prof pour notre famille de 4 (2 adultes 2 enfants): Mateo qui s’est très bien adapté. Nous conseillons vivement.

Une expérience magnifique, bien plus que des cours d'espagnols, la gentillesse de Mateo Ch, Mary García et Mayra González nos superbes professeurs : on est arrivés on ne connaissait que 3 mots en espagnol, on sait maintenant tenir des discussions et refaire le monde en espagnol ! Bien plus que des cours de langue, 4h d'échanges chaque jour, d'apprentissages, de culture, de philosophie, et des activités géniales organisées par Mateo ! Le tout, dans un cadre magnifique, au pied du lac Atitlan ! Foncez sans hésiter une seconde à la Casa Rosario, la plus ancienne école d'espagnol de San Pedro !
