Amazing English pub lunch in the Yorkshire Dales countryside. Accommodated a large group but we called ahead so that is encouraged. I had the steak and ale pie which was the best pie I experienced on this trip. My son had the wild game casserole which was top notch. For beers there were traditional York ales in casks and wide selection on tap.

Always a great place to stop off for a pint or a bite to eat. Cosy pub with fantastic staff. Always try to end a walk or trip near here so I can pop in

We arrived for a couple of pints as part of our planned circular walk. Having know the reviews of this place previously we were not disappointed. It was a glorious Friday afternoon, not too busy, but it does get extremely busy on a weekend, so it is best to book a table.

We were not there for the food this day, so we can not review that, but feom what we saw being served ot looked and smelt amazing.

What I can say though is that the beer is perfectly kept and a wide selection of real ales on hand pull are available, all next to the amazing fireplace, such a cosy atmosphere.

Thanks for the hospitality we received on arrival. We were really made to feel welcome.

Without doubt the best pub in the Dales, if not Britain. Characterful everywhere from the open fires to the snugs and stone floors. The beer range is excellent, including Old Peculiar from the wood, and this weekend's beer festival saw over 20 Yorkshire and Northumberland ales on hand pull. Superb

ABSOLUTE GEM OF A TRADITIONAL PUB WITH OPEN FIRES, GAS LAMPS, AND OLD STONE FLOORS. WOULDN'T ADD UP TO MUCH IF THE FOOD AND DRINK WERE NAFF BUT FEAR NOT FOR THE ALE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION (TRY THE OLD PECULIAR SERVED FROM WOOD CASKS!) AND THE PIE N CHIPS ARE TOP NOTCH. SERVICE IS EXCELLENT AND STAFF ARE FRIENDLY. IT'S THE HOLY GRAIL OF PUBS!

This is a beautiful old worldly pub in a stunning location. We stopped in a couple of times while out walking. Next time, we will definitely try the food. The menu looked good to me and the staff were very friendly.

Visited here on new years eve, old fashioned pub with old fashioned values. No gimmicks. Excellent food the pork belly was gorgeous, I would recommend the Timothy Taylor beer, the landlord really knows how to look after the beer.
Georgina the waitress was so pleasant .
All round the best pub we have been to.

Having been recommended by a local we took the opportunity to visit for dinner. Were we disappointed NO, despite being almost fully booked we were seated at a table that was reserved but not until later that evening

We ordered the steak and ale pie, chips and mushy peas and it was amazing all homemade proper pies, stuffed with meat and veg, homemade chips and proper mushy peas.

If you are in the area I fully recommend a visit.

This pub is the pub that all others aspire to be. At first glance, you may take it as cliche and overdone, but only because this place is one of the originals that has inspired all else.

Lots of hearty hustle and bustle, warm greetings, smiling faces, travellers, farmers, families, the artsy, all welcomed and warmed by the fire alike. I could’ve easily sat inside all day, but alas, didn’t want to impose too strongly on our designated driver!

The setting is absolutely beautiful, and a visit worthwhile even if you’re not into the ales and gins. All of these photos were taken literally just outside the building itself.

Beautiful pub, the setting itself has beautiful views. Inside, it's like you're in a time capsule. Every where you look, there is items/objects that there are stories behind. The really fire was lite, giving the bar a nostalgic setting for people my age.

Food was quick and perfect cooked. I really enjoyed my time here, and I had my first taste of pale ale from a hand pulled pump. Think I'm a convert. Can't wait to visit again.

Just recently had my wife’s 40th birthday meal here with 15 guests whilst staying at the lovely High Hall in Appletreewick. The food was first class, the service was great and the beer was on form. High recommend and will definitely go back some day

We were staying at a campsite close by took a walk hoping to get Sunday lunch, sadly they were fully booked, so we booked a table for tea. Loved everything about this pub, the original features, the fact it was dog friendly, the staff were friendly and attentive. We were seated in the cruck barn and what an amazing space it was. We both had a burger for our mains and cheesecake for dessert, and can honestly say it's the best food we've had! The quality and taste of the food was superb 👌 highly recommend.

What a place - fantastic. We stopped in for a drink after a walk. The pub is perfectly situated if you enjoy a hike, as there are plenty of local routes to choose from. We popped in on a Sunday afternoon, it was busy with roast dinners being served, but despite having plenty of other customers the service at the bar was swift. Would recommend.
