We are here today as a party of four with a dog. We booked and I would highly recommend booking for the lunch period. Once you get downstairs it’s easy to see why it’s so popular as staff are so very friendly and the food is absolutely brilliant. We had a mix of jacket potatoes, club sandwich, soup and scone and a Grannies afternoon tea with coffees and tea . It was stunning both in presentation, service and taste. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals and will definitely return - simply stunning.

A lovely little cafe tucked away downstairs, great atmosphere and service excellent. Just eaten the best sandwich of my life - can thoroughly recommend the chicken, stuffing and bacon club sandwich. Definitely worth a visit as menu has great choice.

As ever brilliant, had grannies breakfast this time, my wife had a bacon and egg teacake, both very tasty and good cup of coffee to go with it. If going later do not miss out on the smoked salmon stack it is excellent

We ate downstairs. Very cozy and the ambiance was enhance with vintage photos and antique items. The food (jacket potato + an Italian mix of olives, feta in a cream sauce-YUMMY!) was delivered very hot and in huge quantity. Can't go wrong here. Homemade meals that will impress. Also take time to browse there store items. You will find it hard to resist not walking out with some items to savor later.
Great food, still ! Baked potato cooked to perfection with a corn-beef hash topping. Just got and great.

Had one panini, and three homemade quiches (ham and Stilton and the cheese and pesto) and it was exquisite! Having the lovely side salad was a beautiful touch that we all really enjoyed, especially with the panini ( its not just a piece of bread in the middle of a plate ). Really loved our lunch! We had the tasty cheese scone earlier in the week and that was just the taster we needed to know that the food will be excellent.
Really great and friendly service, very attentive to your needs and dietary needs.
Coffee were ok, but I’m a bit fussy so I would say not quite barista flat white that I like, but the rest of our group enjoyed theirs so I guess it’s different taste as I used to work as a barista myself I can be particular on that!

Quirky underground cafe. Just found this recently and been back twice already. Only 5 or 6 tables. But, if full when you arrive, will let you reserve it for a short while later and you can mooch about the shops nearby for 10-20'. Tasty food and generous portions too. Not accessible to all as steep stairs and stairs up to toilet as well.

Had a very nice seat in the front and this fantastic venue!

The place was so busy with people coming for lunch and the choices sounded delicious!

Takes American Express.

Didn’t go downstairs to the tea rooms but plenty of space from what I could tell.

Great venue.

This café is a wonderful place to enjoy delicious sandwiches in a friendly and cozy setting. You’ll love the warm atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. What sets this café apart is its commitment to using fresh, locally-sourced ingredients in every sandwich they prepare. It’s a delightful experience that not only satisfies your taste buds but also supports local producers.

Stopped off at Grannies based on the already excellent reviews and wasn't disappointed. We had lovely homemade sandwiches with locally sourced produce. A pot of tea for 2. Lovely atmosphere and not crowded when we visited. Tea room is downstairs and shop upstairs sells local cheeses and produce. Smells amazing when you enter the shop. Friendly service and good value.

There's a small tea room near my home town that does the best coronation chicken anywhere, bur, after having coronation chicken sandwich at Grannie's I have changed my mind. Fantastic food, cakes and awesome staff, definitely coming here again.

What a brilliant little find in Alnwick. Looking around for somewhere that wasn't a big chain and came across Grannies. They have a lovely little deli upstairs and hidden down stairs is a quite delightful cafe. The staff were so friendly and helpful and we opted for the soup and sandwich option, both were really tasty and as you can see they weren't getting much more soup in that bowl. I would highly recommend and will return next time we are up that way.

Well, we must have been passed this place loads of time's over the years.
Well don't walk passed go in.
Very nice Ickle shop & café.
The staff were fantastic, the young lady who served us downstairs in the café gave Impeccable service & had great knowledge of the building.
They were closing a 4.30pm we went in around 4.05pm but that wasn't a problem. We ordered, drank, ate and left at 4.45pm after buying cakes also...
We will be Back on our next trip to Northumberland, An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty 🚴👍

Very friendly staff. Cosy downstairs, may be very busy when you go, but worth the wait for a table. We went one afternoon but, alas, no room. We went back in the morning and were the first ones in. Result. Reasonable prices and tasty cakes.

Was well worth it! I have knee issues and I had no problem with the steps. There is a handrail. The food and service was great.

Found purely by chance this was a great find.
Mid afternoon and we just popped in for a coffee and cake.
Shown to the lower cafe, what a nice surprise to be warmly welcomed and served lovely coffee and the biggest toasted teacake we have ever been offered, lashings of butter and a lady to tell us all about the place.
The upstairs is the most amazing shop selling just about any sort of food imaginable.
Just to bad we did not find "Grannies" until our last day. But! we will be back , thank you

This is a very small place with just a few tables downstairs. Old kitchen implements hang from the ceiling so there's lots to look at. Nice food, friendly staff, fun place to visit.
