This experience was exceptional. The actors who really stayed in character throughout the visit at the Manor were entertaining, professional, and a joy to watch and listen to. The Manor was outstanding with so much beauty and detail. I would highly recommend a visit here and will definitely be returning at some point.

A big thank you to the actors who stayed in character throughout our entire visit. My grandchildren were enthralled and horrified at the same time. They brought the past to life with engaging stories and wit. A fun day out, highly recommended, we took a picnic and enjoyed it in the grounds. The sun shone down on our very happy afternoon.

What an interesting place! The Manor House staff are in period dress and speaking old English, they are very knowledgeable about the house and the local area. Nice restaurant and the food was really good. Very enjoyable visit.

Llancaiach Fawr Manor is a Tudor manor house near the village of Nelson, located just to the north of the site of the former Llancaiach Colliery in the heart of the Rhymney Valley in South Wales. The Manor is considered to be one of the most important gentry houses to have survived from the 16th and 17th century period. It is now open to visitors as a living history museum. Lovely day out the gardens and visitors centre is free, but you have to pay for the tour, we never ate at the café but it was busy and looked tasty. As you are walking around the staff stay in character and greet you as they would of back then. We will go back and do the tour but just didn't have time when we called in.

Took my 10 yr old daughter for a visit as she is very interested in the Tudor period. The staff and guides were so well informed and engaging - they kept her attention through out. A thoroughly enjoyable day

Good food, pleasant environment with outlook across countryside. Nice gift shop. Decent playground for kids. Visits to the Manor House have to be booked as tours run at specific times. The guides are in period costume and act as a person from the relevant historical time. House not extensive but guided tour is excellent.

Popped in to book a tour for next month.
I did not realise that the museum and gardens were free to visit! Had an absolutely lovely time looking at all the exhibits in the museum. Everything was well presented and the information was really interesting without being dry.
The gardens are lovely. Check out the herb garden and the apple orchard. I loved discovering the medlar tree!
Looking forward to coming back and seeing the manor properly. 5*

The tour was very interesting. The Manor is very cold, so do wrap out warm.
The cafe next to the gift shop offered a good selection of meals and light bites. It is a modern, bright building and the service was very good too

I cannot rate this experience highly enough. The information provided to you by the 'servants' in each room is fascinating. How they manage to keep a straight face when they're describing the quite crazy practices of the day is beyond me. I thoroughly enjoyed myself, I left with a smile on my face and I will visit again.

This was a great trip out. The staff are great, from those in the shop to the actors in the house. The actors make it such a unique experience taking you back in time and staying in character even if we struggled to play the game!

There's loads of artefacts and things to read and learn in the exhibition. No cameras or phones allowed in the house.

Assistance dogs only. On Sundays you can only get carvery in the cafe. Just for anyone who's looking for something light although there are cakes and crisps if you wanted those instead.

Lots of parking. It's a bit weird to navigate to though as it feels like you're going in to a housing estate but once you're on the grounds it's easy to forget you are surrounded by modern houses.

Very much enjoyed our visit. The staff acting as if from the 17th century and sharing out nibbles of that time was excellent. Would recommend anyone to go and visit.

Me and our family of four did a guided tour, it's was amazing the servants never broke out of creator and the rooms are full of details. It's took 90 minutes and we were able to absorb the time period and be transported back to 1645 or so... would definitely recommend it! So many interesting facts !

Wanting something local to do with our house-guest on a very wet Sunday afternoon, we hit on Llancaiach Fawr - and were very pleased that we did.
Our guides were personable, entertaining, patient and extremely knowledgeable! Our large group of visitors varied in age from younger children, through to pre-teens, parents and those like us "of a certain age", but the tour was fully inclusive and everyone enjoyed it.
We will certainly return to the venue - on a dry day - to appreciate the lovely outdoor setting, take a longer look at the interesting exhibition and to enjoy something to eat/drink.
One final word, front of house staff member that Sunday was also extremely pleasant and welcoming.
Thank you again, all.

Master John and Master Mathias were incredibly informative, kind and stayed true to their roles throughout. I would and absolutely shall be recommending this place to others, it was a really enjoyable and an indepth insight, into a time period so far gone yet so alive thanks to folks like these! The gift shop is also, the loveliest.
