The White Lion Inn

Great place to stay in the Yorkshire Dales. It is in some really amazing countryside and there is a stream with waterfalls just over the road.

The room I had looked out over the road but noise was certainly not an issue. There is not a lot of traffic on that road.

The room was a decent size and the bed was extremely comfortable. Smallish bathroom but a really good shower.

The food was absolutely wonderful. Tasty, plentiful and perfectly cooked.

I would not hesitate to stay again.

Visited the White Lion for Sunday lunch. Beautiful drive to get there and a truly delicious meal - flavours were 👌🏻 and food very well presented. Would 100% recommend. Service also great.

My wife and I did not stay - we only came for dinner. We didn't have a reservation but the manager found a table for us. And am I glad he did!
For one, the refurbishment to this old pub has made it very cosy and comfortable and, as a result, the atmosphere was great.
The food was next-level. I've eaten in Michelin-starred restaurants where the food wasn't as good as what we were served here. I'd probably make a reservation in the future, though. We got lucky on our visit, due to a cancellation, but book ahead because you don't want to miss out on this place!

It's an amazing location ,great for walking. Or a romantic night away.
They have an amazing chef. The menu £££, however, I could not complain . 😋
Would definitely return for a short break. But I would upgrade to a bigger room to get a bigger bed. The double in the small room was a little short for my husband.

Deserves every accolade, staff were very accommodating and proactive for our stay, despite being very busy. Food was sublime, beers great, room was warm and comfortable, small and rustic with a modern bathroom. Sorry to see it's for sale (July 2023) Highly recommend a stay.

Our favourite place to visit, to unwind, in a homely setting, with a roaring open fire to banish the winter weather. To enjoy excellent food and a wine collection to suit all tastes and budgets.
The hosts are so friendly and knowledgeable and although they are there to serve you themselves, they have the best chef and staff to serve you.
Your table is yours all night, no rushing like some places give you only 90 minutes.
When you’ve had your fill you can retire into a comfortable bed in a stylish room with extra amenities, including a bag of maltesers.
I cannot recommend the White Lion Inn enough and I’d give it 10 stars if I could.

We had a lovely stay in the Yorkshire Dales. Not least because we booked at hotel The White Lion Inn, in the hamlet of Cray, Upper Wharfedale. The inn has been beautifully restored and brought into original style with beams, open log fire and stone flagged floors.
Don't expect a big hotel, The White Lion Inn is a picturesque inn. Rooms are relatively small but complete and clean. The restaurant area is cosy with a lovely bar and fireplace. The big surprise is the culinary section. No extensive menu but what you are served is pure, high-level and traditionally prepared. Breakfast too is 'handmade' and brought with dedication. Just... excellent.
The owners, a married couple, are friendly and welcoming. We got excellent tips from them to visit in the area.
We enjoyed the inn and the surroundings.

Had an amazing stay at The White Lion, Tom at the bar was great and friendly. The pub is just to my liking and had a great selection of real ales on tap. The plum porter was a favourite! The food that evening was exceptional and the service was a perfect balance of attentive/present to needs. The room was super cosy and well appointed. Wish we could have stayed longer. I will be back as soon as I can.

Third time staying at this great place. Always drawn by the great location in the middle of the Yorkshire Dales and the ambiance of the pub and restaurant. There has always been a wood or coal fire going. Rooms very clean and quiet and modern bathrooms. New owners are very food-focused and the meals are outstanding. Highly recommended.

After a walk in the Yorkshire dales we stopped at this pub for some lunch. The food was delicious. Sadly I didn't have enough room for dessert, but will do so next time. I've been told that it is the only pub in the area that's open on Mondays.

Lovely location and great service. Food a little expensive - but what you get is worth every penny! Looking forward to our next visit…

Asked for a Pimm's and the landlord was able to find a bottle able andaccommodate, a warm and friendly atmosphere.

We saw this beautiful place on a previous trip back in January. We stayed here for a couple of nights with our dog and had a lovely time. The room was perfect, clean and comfy, food was beautiful and the area was stunning. The owners were very friendly and accomodating and we couldn't have wished for better weather. We were very lucky and would most definitely recommend The White Lion Inn for both food and accommodation 😍

Stayed for a Sunday night and dinner in summer. Got lucky with the extraordinary weather. The location of this pub is breathtaking. Sit outside for a local pint and listen to the bubbling stream, have dinner in the old inn dining room/pub area. Definitely worth staying the night and including dinner, food was excellent, room was spacious and extremely comfortable. The pub and room were spotless, and I mean spotless. Staff were friendly and helpful. And amazingly a public bus came past, so possibly an option for walkers/those without cars.

Lovely, warm welcoming pub with superb food and friendly atmosphere. The landlord was great. Nothing was too much trouble. Good attention was made to Covid precautions such as room fogging after each stay etc... The situation of this pub lends itself to a wonderful getaway with amazing views and a variety of walks. There were dog friendly rooms available for those with pets or alternatively (as I'm allergic) there are rooms where dogs don't stay. Could not recommend highly enough and will definitely be going back.

Chris and family are very friendly and welcoming. The rooms are modern and clean. I would recommend this place as a great bolt hold to explore the delights of Yorkshire. The food is fantastic! Worth the price

We have just spent 2 nights here & it was absolutely wonderful. The room was clean & comfortable with a lovely ensuite shower room. The restaurant, bar & sitting room were all full of character & with a lovely friendly atmosphere. The staff were really friendly & nothing was too much trouble throughout our stay. The food was superb, second to none! We would give everything that we ate a huge 10 out of 10. Will definitely stay again!

We spent 6 days here, it was wonderful, the food is exceptional, not pub grub. The chefs clearly know what they are doing , they have produced a varied and interesting menu and the helpings are really large. We booked one of the luxury rooms and it was delightful. The hosts Dennis and Amelia are welcoming, friendly and attentive. We can't wait to get back.

We have visited the pub for drinks for over 20 years and stayed in early July. We returned last week 23Oct and Chris and Helenka (and Charlie) as friendly and welcoming as before. Delightful comfortable room and the food and drink superb. We have recommended it to friends who also enjoyed their stay and would do so to anyone.
