Equestrian statue to General Joan Prim

It is an equestrian statue representing General Joan Prim, the ardent instigator of the demolition of the Citadel, which was on land that now makes up this public park. This monument is located in the center of the roundabout in front of the entrance to the Barcelona Zoo, inside the huge Parc de la Ciutadella.

The park is wonderful! We ended up finding a gazebo where the locals were all dancing Tango and were able to join in! Amazing experience in Barcelona.

Worth a visit if you're passing through the park and likes to take pictures of some huge and amazing looking sculptures. It's easy to find in the middle of the road in front of the Parliament building.

Monumento que homenajea la figura del militar y político Juan Prim y Prats (Reus, 6 de diciembre de 1814-Madrid, 30 de diciembre de 1870). Realizada en 1887 por el arquitecto Josep Fontserè y el escultor Lluís Puiggene. La escutura fue destruida en el año 1936 y fue sustituida en 1948 por otra elaborada por Frederic Marès.

În 1887/8, chiar de la amenajarea Parcului Ciutadella din Barcelona, a fost ridicat și monumentul generalului Juan Prim (1814-1870), unul din inițiatorii și semnatarul Proclamației care a declanșat Revoluția din 1868. Mișcarea urmărea schimbarea Guvernului și reginei Isabela II.
Monumentul a fost distrus în 1936 și transformat în muniție pentru Războiul Civil Spaniol. În 1948, având modelul statuii inițiale, sculptorul Frederic Marès a realizat monumentul pe care-l admirăm noi în locul respectiv din celebrul Parc Ciutadella.
