Al-Aqmar Mosque

A Devine place with a lot of historical significance.

It had a surreal feeling when we visited.

It is one of the UNESCO heritage sights and it was very well restored and maintained.

A must visit place when in Cairo and it is not less than a living open air museum.

It's a historic masjid in Islamic culture most of the fatemi design from this masjid have been used in other dawoodi bhora masjid around the world.

This is also another Historical Masjid in Cairo and is located at the Al-Muizz al Fatimi Street.
It was built during the 1125 AD and was the neighborhood Masjid of the area.
It is an important and exciting structure for architects and is still standing today representing the old Egyptian architectural designs.

The mosque has one of the most beautiful facades that is well maintained and preserved. Highly recommended to see it at the day light, preferably on a Friday where you can pray/ observe the Jumah prayers.

In a crowded congested location there stands a small but beautifully architected masjid. Main gate is lovely carving. Decorated by Aayats of Quran Majid.

The beauty of Fatemid Architecture lies in each and every corner of this mosque......Magnificent Mosque......and a serene place for worship.

Amazing place with well preserved buildings from the old ages. The mosque is a marvelous display of Islamic architectural peeks and around it is several souvenir shops and small places for local food

The name of this mosque, al-Aqmar, means the moonlit, based on gleaming light of limestone. Even though it is a small mosque, it introduces a multitude of new architectural features; it has the oldest completely carved façade of a mosque; the first appearance of the stalactites; the façade is aligned with the street. Top above, to the right and to the left, you see a lamp carved on the wall. Arguably, this is the source of the lamps in all Fatimid monuments, since the Fatimid lamps have long since vanished, you rely on a relief of belief.
