The best way to go to Alexandria from Cairo. As a tourist it was much better than than trying to get the train.

We booked the elite plus from Hurghada to Cairo tahrir online. The journey was amazing, the bus was incredibly comfortable, food and drinks were provided, staff were very friendly and professional. The seats were fully adjustable for total comfort. There was a huge choice of English films and also games to play and a usb charging point. We had a couple of stops for the toilet and to stretch our legs. A fabulous way to travel. Arriving in Cairo Tahrir, the roads looked a little daunting, but we managed to walk the 20 minutes to our hostel with no problems.

We went from Cairo to Luxor during the night.
It worth to pay the “business class” bus because it’s way more comfortable and you will need that specially when traveling at night for a 10 hours trip.

I would recommend to buy the tickets in their web site by advance.
