Omar Makram Mosque

The Omar Makram Mosque or Al-Abit Mosque, was established during the royal era and is attributed to Sheikh Muhammad Al-Abit, one of the most prominent scholars of Al-Azhar in the twelfth century AD, and where his tomb is located. And this fool was “Bahloula”, he lived wandering on his face, and some believe in his dignity and his prophecies. As for the strange name, in the language the word “Abet” is given to the person whose “pockets and the ends of his sleeves were ripped out of the traces of cotton.” Its meaning comes in the Sahih “to fold the garment.” sever him, i.e. flatten him, for he is crippled and sluggish.” After the July 1952 revolution, the Ministry of Awqaf expanded the mosque and changed its name to the Omar Makram Mosque in memory of the scientist, the mujahid and the Egyptian hero who contributed to Muhammad Ali's accession to power. The name of the Omar Makram Mosque in Tahrir Square has always been associated with the mourning and funerals of famous personalities in Egypt.[1][2]

We pray idulfitri 1440 here, nice and cute masjid.... alhamdulillah

It has the greatest atmosphere in Ramadan, full of seats, carpets have a good smell and very soft. Everything is done to make you concentrate during your prayers

Although this is a historical mosque, but it has a great recent value to be remembered as the mosque of Egypt's revolution of 2011.
At the Muslim five prayers times it was used for prayers, in between and before and after it was one of the field hospitals of Tahreer square.
People prayed, laughed, cried and shed blood for there freedom inside and all around this holy place.

Two big underground parkings available, it is the place where most important funeral services used to be held before the fifth settlement took over.

The parking made it way easier to go there.

Very nice place , spiritual. Also very convenient parking spaces , not much crowd
