You drink your coffee or eat your meal with history flavour, honestly I don't remember how the food was, because my mind was busy visualizing that am setting next to the top names in Egypt's Culure, Art & Political history. If you are setting with Najueb Mahfouz or Taha Hussein or Roza Al yossef, would you care about your coffee taste? I wouldn't.

It was my first time going there even though I wanted to go for years, but I didn't for some reason..
The atmosphere and service are really good, I had a coffee and my friend had a beer, but I wanna go and try their food experience next time.
I loved the room with the pictures of all the awesome and influential people that used to hang out there..
Poets, artists, authors.. It was so beautiful, I felt their energy in the place in a way

I stumbled upon this place by mere chance! I was looking for a bar and it was closed so I kept on walking and saw the wooden entrance and decided to give it a try.
The first thing I saw was a man sitting at a desk full of books and notebooks! I thought it was a library type of cafe, but then I saw the tables and a young waiter showed me to my table.
I ordered a Stella beer and then some wings. It wasn't bad and it was inexpensive. Surprised me that smoking was allowed though!
The blond lady from the comments was there checking everything out he he! It didn't bother me though!
Initially the waiter spoke French to me but when I told him that only in English he changed with no problem. Nice guy!
I recommend this place for its charm. I didn't try any other dishes because I already had lunch plans. But the food looked ok!

Before reviewing I want to preface that Cairo is a city that has two identities. The first is an old world that is full of treasures. The second world is one that is commercialized and full of western businesses. Café Richie is a treasure of the old world and walking into this establishment is exciting and nostalgic. This place is a quiet escape in the hectic world. It is establishments like café Richie why I love returning to Cairo.

Thanks to our Egyptian colleague Karim Khalil who uncovered this place with its unique rich cultural history.
We learned that it used to gather generations of Egyptians thinkers and creatures in many branches of Arts, such as writers, actors, singers and others.
Now it is a nice café/ restaurant where you can have a bite with a glass of local wine of excellent quality.
If you read Arabic, you will find inside an excellent book entitled "Rich Café, an Eye on Egypt". Ask the lady on desk for it.
Absolutely recommend.

An authentic cafe with great for and service.
Limited menu written in Arabic, French and English. Their food is tastey. The waiters is always smiley even though the mask is hiding it.

Café Riche which opened in 1908 at 29th of Talaat Harb Street, is one of the most renowned landmarks in downtown Cairo. At various times a meeting place for intellectuals and revolutionaries, the café witnessed many historically significant events over the 20th century. It is said to be where King Farouk saw his second wife, Nariman Sadek; where the perpetrator of the 1919 failed assassination attempt on Egypt's last Coptic Prime Minister, Youssef Wahba Pacha lay in wait for his target; and where several members of the resistance during the 1919 revolution met the basement to organize their activities and print their flyers. Patrons included the political novelist Naguib Mahfouz and the then-future president Gamal Abdel Nasser.

The spaghetti bolognese pleasantly surprised me. I got a side of frites too, and finished with a muhallabia (which came early to my delight). This place has range.

This place has great history. This was and still is the cultural melting pot of Cairo. Many famous writers, poets, politicians spent hours discussing literature, planning revolution and just spending leisure time. The language barrier of the servers was little surprising, especially because of so many foreigners visit this place.
