Warm, friendly and authentic pension in Downtown Cairo. You can expect spacious but simple rooms, a light breakfast and lovely staff. Ideal place to come to back to after a day in buzzing Cairo! Would definitely recommend to stay here!

The service and the staff are amazing, building a little old but adds to its charm. 10/10

This is a low budget downtown hotel so know what you are getting yourself into and be careful making reservations. Shared toilets and creaky beds are part of the deal. Some rooms lack air conditioning so choose wisely and above all remember, these sorts of places are not for everyone!

They are, however, my favorite. The location is amazing. If you want to see the Egyptian Cairo, the city that lives and breathes, no hawkers no plastic Pharoah nonsense, this is where it is! There is food and shopping and hustle bustle day and night, but this hotel is tucked away like a calm, dim, timeless oasis. Breakfast is eggs, cheese and rolls, coffee to kick start your morning, and a quiet diningroom.

The lift is a little intimidating, but much appreciated when you need to get to the 4th floor, and the staff is so very friendly, helpful, just lovely. Chat with the front desk, ask advice on where to eat, arrange a ride to wherever you like. They are there for you.

Highly recommended.

Excellent value for money accommodation in downtown Cairo. Functional, clean rooms. Good location with great eating options nearby. Helpful staff. Basic breakfast included but a lot of good options like El Abd bakery to supplement the breakfast.

Ask for rooms in the new wing with attached bath.

Always so happy to stay at Pension Roma. Madame Adele runs the place as she has for decades — as a beautiful traditional hotel where the staff welcome you with warmth and kindness. All have been here for years and the run the hotel beautifully. Izzat and Emad and Madame Adele all know a lot about Cairo and about touring Egypt, and they’re happy to share advice and tips. Highly recommended.

A fantastic place to stay, in the heart of Downtown Cairo, with the air and charm of yesteryear. Homely and comfortable. The staff and owner- an old kindly Madame who exuberates the elegance of Khedivial Egypt- creates the ambience of a real Egyptian home, that not even the nearby Hilton or Kempinski can compete with.

I have always recommended the Pensioners Roma to all visitors to Cairo. It is located on the fourth and fifth floor of a downtown Cairo building with about thirty rooms some with bathrooms and others without. The light is dubious as the place is surrounded by buildings of the same heights, the entrance, the street, and the elevator might scare you off but you must continue up to the pension which is lovely and clean and very reasonable for foreigners. The people that stay here are a million times more interesting than most hotels in Cairo, intellectuals, backpackers, lonely planet types. Do stay.

Clean basic well priced accommodation in a convenient location. It's an old building with wooden floors so you if you are close to reception you can hear people coming and going but I don't find that a problem . The management and staff are faultlessly polite and helpful. I have stayed here 4 times so far.

Wonderful hotel in the very center of the City. In a nice 1900 Italian style building, a soulful "pensione" furnished with taste with vintage furniture and kept with a lot of care by the same owner for 50 years and her staff, always available. Spacious rooms with high ceiling and hardwood floor, each one has its own decoration and spirit, some with balconies with columns. Many different configurations available, just ask: with AC or ceiling fan (we tried both, fan was enough even in summer), with or without shower and toilets in the the room (but the communal bathrooms are also very clean), all with at least a sink, single, double, double + single bed for families, on the street (vibrant city vibe) or on the back lane (very quiet). Very clean, comfortable and functional. Same for the communal spaces, large TV salon and dining room. Possible to order lunch and dinner too. Great vintage atmosphere, a lot of charm, an experience out of time

Pension Roma in Down Town Cairo is the right place to stay if you seek the glorious classical style of the middle ages, where the architectural elements of the building are unique. The Service of the people is perfect, where their smiles and lovely Morning words gives power to start the day.

Very kind and helpful staff, peaceful atmosphere, extremely clean. Bring bug spray for Cairo in general and if you wish to sleep with the window open.

If your driver doesn't know where Pension Roma is it can be hard to find, you can't see it from the street since they erected this construction thing. So when you're on Mohamed Farid street between Adly and 26th of July street It's down a little alley between the big temporary wall and a super demented lit up window display of hundreds of child mannequins. Go past and you'll see Pension Roma on the left, take the lift up to the 4th floor. I'll probably be asleep but I'm in room 18 and they should know you are coming, come bang on my door and wake me up anytime!
