It was very fascinating to see the monument commemorating such a historical event. It's definitely worth at least one visit.

We had to pay our respects to those murdered in the war.
It was devastating to see the sheer amount of people who lost their lives.
On a site covering 19,000 square metres, there are 2711 concrete columns/slabs. Maybe due to the time of year, it was peaceful and eerie adding to the somber mood.
I have seen posts on social media of people lying down or standing on these which is totally unacceptable and disrespectful. So I'm glad we didn't witness anyone doing that.
We didn't do the guided tour as we were on a tight time schedule, but if we have the opportunity to return to Berlin again, that would be on our list to do
A must see landmark in the area.

I am exceedingly impressed with the Memorial to the Book Burning in Berlin. It has a subtle presence, often blending into the background. During the day, I usually have to look closely to find it. At night it illuminates from the ground.
At first glance, its significance is not immediately clear. The empty bookshelves poignantly symbolize the book burnings by the Nazis, a horrific chapter in German history. This memorial, with its simple white bookshelves, serves as a solemn reminder of these atrocities.
I am grateful for this memorial, as it offers a unique form of remembrance.
My recommendation is to visit it after dark, to fully appreciate its impact.

Fantastic Christmas market here, which has a small entry fee. I believe this was moved here for a previous location. It's a very small space for a market. It gets super busy by 4 pm it's just too much! However, there's some lovely stalls, mostly food and drinks.

Somber site with an underground bookshelf representing the thousands of books' space that was lost. Location is central, near the tv tower and several train stations. Witnessed a beautiful light show there on return visit.

For a book lover and reader, this place is the least wanted place to be standing. This is where, more than 20,000 books were burned down to chock the free flow of knowledge. The empty book shelves reminds us of that day, everyday.

A simple but sad memorial to all the literature lost from the Hirschfield institute and elsewhere.

The infamous Bebelplatz, where the notorious National Socialists or "Nazis" burnt 20,000 books remains fresh as a horror to the literate world.
The spot where the books were burnt, right in front of the Law-Department of Humboldt University, has been preserved with an underground memorial with shelves, having no books in them - a clear indication of that day of horror.

Hitler has lived there and burnt books. İ will add underground library - it's empty - and symbolic for remind history. This Platz behind to university by the way. İ like very much there because every physical and geographic location design and create for relaxty for citizen. For example sidewalk and roads.

The memorial reminding us of the 1933 book burning is a stark exhibition of empty shelves and empty minds.
The fright is seeing such movements again today happening among USA extreme conservative members of a political party.
May the world never forget!

A lovely little square surrounded by architectural interesting buildings. I visited before Christmas and there was a little Christmas market there which was really nice.

A clear glass window on ground level looking at empty bookshelves for all the books burned and banned. Moving and poignant reminder- “if you burn books you burn people” 1820 and yet we are still here today

The memorial itself isn't important. Standing on the spot where the books were burned right in front of the Nutrimentum Spiritus post was chilling.

Don’t miss this subtle memorial, The Empty Library. “That was but a prelude; where they burn books, they will ultimately burn people as well.” quote from German-Jewish author Heinrich Heine's play Almansor (1820).

Christmas market taking place while I was there, so impossible to reflect. The glass square in the centre with the empty bookshelves is a simple and effective piece.

Good to see the site. The wall plaque. The university. The window in the middle of the square looking down into empty bookshelves. Chilling that night must have been for anyone who read and valued free thought.

Hard to see because of the glare but very cool memorial.
