The Berlin Wall Memorial was very appropriate for the type of historic memorial to loss that it is. I appreciate the art installation of steel rods where visitors can pass through and see how the wall divides them and fellow tourists. I also appreciated the memorials to crossers who died seeking a better life. Thank you to the people who dedicated this memorial.

Not just a memorial but also a free open air museum, which is perhaps the best way to tell the story of the Wall. With text, photos, video and audio, it tells stories that happened literally beneath your feet as you walk the pleasant, quiet park surrounds. An excellent place to spend an hour.

Really sad but a must visit. The thought of a wall going up through a city. Families and friends split up over night. One side prospers other side doesn’t have that luxury. Really sad. The scale of the wall is crazy and I could not imagine being there in the 60s, 70s and 80s. History can be a hard lesson to learn sometimes.

Visited the Berlin Wall 3 weeks ago—powerful and moving experience. A historic landmark symbolizing unity, freedom, and the triumph of hope. A must-see! Standing before it, I felt the weight of history, resilience, and the triumph of reunification. It's not just a physical barrier but a testament to human spirit. Undoubtedly, the Berlin Wall stands as one of the best tourist destinations. Its historical importance, the emotional impact of its remnants, and the narrative of unity make it a must-visit. A poignant journey through time, offering invaluable insights into the human spirit.

A very nice piece of German history.

The pillars that have been placed show where the wall used to be, and clearly give a picture of the separation of these two parts.

On the floors you will see red bricks showing the places where the tunnel used to be not so long ago.

In certain places you can find small screens that are activated with a button and start playing a short film with useful content and difficult moments when citizens try to jump from the balcony in the hope of salvation.

I definitely recommend to visit if you are visiting this city.

Interesting place to discover the history of the walk. Push button system on pillars for audio and some video. Be careful of the gypsies trying to get money off you, scamming a petition to be signed for the deaf, for a few euros. No shame.

There is some interesting history about the east and the west berlin. Learn about the divide between east and west Berlin that led to the wall's construction, the tragic deaths caused by the wall during its construction and operation. How about stories of escape attempts in a ghost train platform nearby too. Lots of historical importance of this memorial. The memorial building was closed when I visited. Also learn about the development of the wall to make an inner and outer wall, guard tower and more defenses to prevent escapes.

This is a must visit place when in Berlin. The place is serene and right outside the metro station. You can also just walk around taking in the calm.
The place is free to visit and does not need any tickets.

Berlin Wall Memorial stands there to remember all the people who wanted a united country, united city. The parts of the Berlin wall are preserved for the people to visit and there are audio and visual guide for the description.

This place makes you sad and sore. Being an important piece of history, this memorial takes you back in time.

THE WALL ON BERNAUER STRASSE

Bernauer Straße on the border between the Berlin districts of Wedding and Mitte was a focal point of German-German post-war history. The construction of the Berlin Wall and its consequences for the residents of the divided city were particularly dramatic here. The history of this street exemplifies the effects of the construction of the wall: the destruction of urban space and ways of life, the separation from family members and friends. It documents the attempts to escape the dictatorship by fleeing to the West or to provide escape aid against its claim to power. The place shows the outstanding function of the Wall in the SED's power structure, the functioning of the Wall regime in everyday life and clearly shows the deep discrepancy between the population and the state leadership of the GDR.

As a history buff, this is a place I visit almost every time I am in Berlin. I love "hands on-history", where you can see and feel the past and imagine the rest. Nowhere is the former divided Europe as clear as here.

In addition to that, the monument is really well made. There is no view point of hole in the inner wall, so even though no east berliner would come that far, then even if he did, he would also be forced to look through the cracks of the wall into the dead strip - no tourist features to destroy the realism.

I also like the symbolism that the end walls is in stainless steel on one side, the inner one where everything is cold and forbidding, while on the outside it is iron, slowly corroding, to show that it is, after all, not there for eternity.

Very interesting place to visit from our not so distant past. The untouched section of the divide is quite something,The free museum across the street gives a perfect view of this.

A must see when in Berlin, go to the film section first in the visitor centre and you'll understand it all better.

A bit sad but after all, a nice trip and history lesson, also from other side you have a building, when you go to the top, 6th floor I believe (there's elevetor also 😂 don't worry) you get the panoramic view of Berlin from this part 🫶🏻

This seems like a very accurate recreation of how the wall existed in its original form.

With memorials for the fallen trying to cross, explanations of how the ‘kill zone’ worked and existed.

Various stories of hearbreaking separation and tactics to stop eastern Berliners from escaping to the west.

The Reconciliation sculpture is beautiful.

Very powerful lesson in the stupidity of trying to force people to live in a way they don’t choose. Take time to reflect on a very strange situation created by people trying to cling on to power against the people’s wishes.
