Berlin Wall Remains

A great piece of historical information though my expectations were of a very huge wall. lol but beautiful scenery got a chance to learn about the East and western Berlin federal republic of Germany

Astounding, a monument of human progression and overcoming. A powerful sign described how the Axel Springer building was a beacon of hope for the East German population during the segregation of the wall. Touching the remains of the wall like the millions of people seeking escape during history feels special and significant. Incredible. Thanks and Hello.

I understand that a lot of what I saw is no longer there, with only a small piece remaining. Glad I git to see it as it was.

The Berlin Wall was a guarded concrete wall that encircled West Berlin and separated it was from East Germany from 1961 to 1989. West Berlin was therefore an enclave within lands controlled by Russia at the time. At times of tension food drops etc had to be used to reach the population.

Construction of the Wall was commenced by the government of the communist GDR, on 13 August 1961. It included guard towers placed along large concrete walls, accompanied by a wide area (later known as the "death strip") that contained anti-vehicle trenches, beds of nails  and other defenses. The primary intention for the Wall's construction was to prevent East German citizens from felling to the West.

I visited in 2005, there was still enough remains to give you insight into what it was like. Also visit Check Point Charlie and the Brandeburg Gate.

A powerful symbol of the past, standing tall with remnants that tell a profound story. Visiting is a must for anyone interested in Cold War history. The site is well-preserved, offering a poignant and thought-provoking experience. Five stars for its historical significance! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Surreal. It was sobering. Made me think that this should be a reminder of the duty we have to not support autocratic leaders.

Yet another free landmark of Berlin history. Was good to see and easily reached. In walking distance from our hotel in the area

There weren’t many people here. However, part of the Berlin Wall remains here and there is a sculpture here.

You can actually touch the Wall here if you want. It’s incredible thinking about the amount of history here.

Amazing landmark to see when in Berlin, I recommend getting a tour guide (you can get really good free ones) to learn more about the history and why there was a wall in the first place.
