A very cool cinema for a very unique experience!

One of the very few cinemas worldwide which run old silent movies accompanied by live orchestra. Great place to watch classics like Metropolis or the Charlie Chaplin movies.

Nestled in the heart of Berlin's Mitte neighbourhood, the Babylon Cinema is a true gem - a striking, listed building with charm and character.

In October 2023, I enjoyed attending the Way Up North international wedding photography convention in Berlin, a gathering of over 500+ attendees. With its warm personality, the Babylon Cinema provided the perfect venue where everyone felt comfortable and cared for.

With its beautiful lighting, the crisp, cool October days allowed me to capture some truly magical photographs of this remarkable venue. I was awed by how seamlessly 500+ people could move in and out of the venue, almost like a well-choreographed dance. And as if the day couldn't get any better, we bid farewell with a little party with colourful floating balloons.

Surrounded by various hotels and restaurants, this location is the perfect choice for hosting a grand-scale convention.

Thank you, Babylon Cinema, for making our experience truly unforgettable. My only regret is not capturing a nighttime photograph of this magnificent venue, but that just gives me one more reason to return.

A special thank you to Berlin, whose undeniable charm and vibrancy, combined with the great hospitality of the Babylon Cinema, made for a memorable gathering of 500+ wedding photographers from every corner of the globe.

Thank you, Babylon Cinema and Thank you, Berlin!

It was my first experience to a silent cinema with live orchestra. My boyfriend and I watched Modern Times and it was really entertaining. My jaw was literally hurting from laughing. Truly an incredible night. ❤❤❤

I attended Nosferatu live with the Babylon Orchestra. The event was very nice and my first experience of this type. The theater was easy to enter and it was easy to find my seat. The quality of the film was excellent for its age, and the musical accompaniment lined up perfectly. I highly recommend this experience to anyone considering attending a film here.

It is a really special cinema representing the atmosphere from the roaring 20s in Weimar Republic. I would recommend to see the famous silent film《Metropolis》here with the music played on their unique cinema organ.

Update: 2nd visit to watch metropolis with live orchestra! One of a kind experience ❤ love it!

1st visit:
Watched in the mood for love in Saal 2, really great experience.

Kino 2 & 3 are located in another building.

You enter babylon main entrance, go a little down stairs to pass by food counter, and find the side door on the right side. Go out from the door and walk for 1 minute. You will see the Studio babylon on the left.

I got a small Popcorn for 2.5 € at the food counter.

seeing the silent films with live orchestra here is one of my favorite things to do in berlin!

the organ music that prefaces each film and/or performance is a highlight not to be missed.

One of the greatest place of this planet. Imagine to see movies that made history with live orchestra. I felt so good and such high quality entertainment. A must to visit once in life.

Accidentally found out that this cinema offers live orchestra during show time in a 1929 building which survived the Second World War. For the price of 25€! Also you can have a drink and eat popcorn (sweet and salted) too. What an awesome experience! Even if you don’t speak German, you can still enjoy “Metropolis” since it has subtitle.

A unique experience!
Ever since we moved to Berlin 6 months ago we wanted to go and finally had the chance and it was totally worth it!!!
We watched Metropolis (1927) followed by the Babylon Orchestra Berlin and it was magical.
Just one tip: I would recommend sitting up front instead of the back like we normally do at the cinema. Actually, when I go back, I would hope to be upstairs.
And also, please, if you go with your friends, please don’t go out every chance you get to get beer/wine (disturbing passing in front of us, the space is too small and we want to watch) and don’t chat with your friends, it’s disrespectful to us who really want to enjoy the experience and to the orchestra.

Ps. Get a poster at the entrance and some popcorn (5€ the huge one) with some wine/beer/non alcoholic drink at the bar :)

Amazing experience to watch "Metropolis", a true classic whose themes are relevant, even after a century when the movie was made. To watch it accompanied by live orchestra, was a truly unique experience. The theater retains its authentically retro look & feel and transports you back in time. Feels like you are in the inglorious basterds theatre scene. Must do in Berlin if movies are your thing.

Very nice old movie theater! I really liked it the neon logo in front of the building. The seats were spacious and comfortable. The image quality was ok for an old cinema, it was what you would expect. They host from time to time movie festivals from different countries which I find very interesting, for seeing something different from Hollywood movies. I would definitely recommend this place.

What a fantastic experience - I wish I didn’t go to see the 2.5 hr long Metropolis accompanied by orchestra immediately after running my first marathon or else I would have had the energy to stay post-intermission! It’s amazing how a movie that is almost 100 years old and silent captivates you and holds your attention - it is beautiful, it is comedic (I am not sure it meant to be…) and the orchestra made the experience all the more wonderful! Wow! I recommend sitting in the front so you could observe the musicians! I typically don’t go to a foreign city across the ocean to sit in front of a screen but this is a very worthy exception!

This is one of the first movie theaters in Berlin, built in 1929. Here they show, on a monthly, sometimes weekly basis, Germany's most famous work when it comes to classic films. Those are Nosferatu, Metropolis, and Dr. Caligari, or The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari. These are present, but instead they have a live orchestra playing the movie soundtrack while the film rolls. Which is amazing!!

The picture I posted was from the opening night of the Berlin Anime Festival, a festival in which they were presenting famous anime movies. This was at midnight.

This is a historical place that, if you have the time, you should visit.

I watched a couple of Tamil movies in Babylon. Amazing theater atmosphere. This theater makes you feel like you are watching a movie in India.

One of the cinema hall which brings Indian movies in Berlin. Chosen couple of times to watch movies and the arrangements came out nice. Would recommend to pay visit atleast once. This is located in the heart of Alexanderplatz surrounded with good food joints.
