I find this place great for working or learning. Unfortunately, the seats and rooms are usually taken, so you should probably come early in the morning to reserve a spot. The building is beautiful and offers a stunning display of books. There's also a cafe inside, which is nice and cheap.

The registration is also free!

A beautiful library, and I didn’t even get to see all of it! The courtyard square is so pretty. I ended up writing and working in the cafe attached to the library, which I’d highly recommend. The cafe was clean, with affordable snacks and coffee; I wrote there for several hours on two different days during my research trip in Berlin.

Note that, to get into the reading rooms, it’s recommended that your register in advance online, bring your ID (passport) in person to show the guards, and store your backpack in the lockers below, which only accept Euro coins (my least favorite part…I don’t carry coins!). Still, it was a beautiful, historic, and inspiring space to work.

Beautiful architecture, comfortable spaces complemented with kind, helpful and welcoming staff.
First time? 1) use the free lockers in the ground floor to drop your stuff and go to the information point on the 1st floor. 2) Register with id/ passport (you can do part of this online and save some paper and time).
More experienced? Use the internal WiFi to access digital libraries and request books.
The building is fully accessible.

It's a place I've wanted to go to for a long time. It was the weekend, the library section was full and I couldn't get in. There is a place downstairs called Kulturwerk. I liked the free entrance rate and the cafe was great.

If you want to use the reading room, you need to register with ID or passport at information desk. There were 3 versions of card to choose, I chose the butterfly one :) when you pass 2 entrances to the reading room, you need to show the staff there.
If you want to borrow books, you need to be a resident of Germany (Anmeldung).

In the reading room, tables are huge and with enough sockets. Pretty quiet here.

As a visitor, you only can take a picture at the border of entering the reading room, just as my pics shown.

Perfect environment to study/work. The stuff are extremely helpful and nice. Highly recommend. It’s also super nice to have a coffee and chill outside in the garden.

To be honest I use only a fraction of the offer here. For me it’s an amazing place to study and get work done.
The architecture is amazing. Simply impressive. Almost intimidating. It’s very minimalistic and cool downstairs. Upstairs the feeling gets much warmer. What an interesting contrast.
The staff is extremely nice and helpful. The no water on the table politics i don’t really understand - probably because some people spilled water over the desks 🤷🏻‍♂ However, I got reminded a couple of times, in the politest and softest way ever.
Make sure you book a table via their website or you can’t enter.

Genuinely one of the best libraries in the world. Great and thought through architecture. The light immersive materials of the ceiling lead to the best natural light (all year round) I have ever experienced in a library/office building.

Beautiful setting and very interesting display of books. Don't miss the gem in the basement with Luther's bible and nice asian scrolls. I would come back.

Amazing library and become even better after the renovation. I like to come there with a notebook and study in silence.
I also like the cafeteria.
Make sure to come early enough as in busy days the places run out quickly. However, you can prove it in advance with the seats monitor on the library website.

Walked in as we toured the city and spoke with Hr. Wachtel who was incredibly informative and kind while explaining the library and museum to us.
Had a pleasant time and the museum is very good, with panels of braille for visually impaired 😄

Beautiful library. Can be used perfectly for reading or studying.
Amazing architecture from the outside as well as from the I side.

I mainly use the reading room. Currently booking a time slot online is mandatory. Hygienic measurements are met at a high standard.
I can understand that people think that the staff seem a bit rigid, though in the end I only had very positive experience with the service.
