Cafe Nord

After going to a lot of metal bars every city I am in, I can say, that cafe Nord is and stays my favorite bar to got to!
Music is always good, service, food and drinks are great and usually there's always a good bunch of people to have a great time with.

Cheyenne is super helping friendly nice waitress!!!!! We had our billiards table after not too long waiting without having to remind the bar ++++ aspasia is also sooo nice !! You have to go for a good time !!! Being in esse for juste the night and we made the best choice to go here , the service is so nice!!!

What can I say? A local connoisseur of guitar-heavy music will certainly be familiar with the Nord. It is located on a main road and is very easy to reach by public transport. This advantage is masked by the fact that the beer garden swaps metal music for urban sounds (engine noise) in the warmer months. However, this shouldn't bother the classic crowd, which is surprisingly mixed.

The beer is good, although Stauder (a local brand) can (and should...) be replaced by other beers. In general, the atmosphere is very friendly and the waiters are exceptionally polite.

The food varies from very good to meh. I had moments when I was extremely surprised by the originality of the food and others when I doubted my ability to control my facial expressions. This is mainly due to the fact that Nord offers weekly specials and thus gives the chefs a platform to give free rein to their creativity. It often works very well and sometimes rather so-so.

But what always works are the set meals. These are usually quite good. However, I very much doubt that Nord's intention is to win a Michelin star. And after the umpteenth Stauder, the regular guest will probably be pretty indifferent.

Conclusion: A very likeable pub and certainly worth a visit for metal fans. But don't bring your mums.

This place was recommended to me my the guitarist of Nana: [shi] who I saw at the club next door the night before. He said they always hang out there when they're in town so figured I'd give it a shot. Looks a little shabby from the outside but once inside it's a really homely place. Decorated in a relaxed style with an excellent varied selection of rock music playing. Staff were super friendly even though we barely spoke any German and the food was amazing, the menu also included a lot of vegetarian dishes. I had a Chicken Pasta Jambalaya which was obviously freshly cooked and certainly the best meal I ate on my trip. They also have meal offers on during the week, all you can eat pizza on Sundays and a bbq Monday. If I ever make it back to Essen it'll definitely be my first stop

Excellent place! The inside area is as if you're going back to the 80s / 90s - but in an authentic way: the music, the people, the bar area and the overall shabby interior (not dirty, but just not so slick as you see in many of these theme bars). The toilet is top-down full of stickers from local bands and stores - picture worth! The outside area is large and has a very relaxed atmosphere, it makes everybody feel very welcome. Waiters and waitresses are super friendly and you never have to wait long. They write what you drink on a coaster and at the end of the night add it up. Food was decent and large quantity. For Dutch and US standards it is incredibly cheap.

Very chill atmosphere, the staff is so nice and you never have to wait long. Prices are fair. You can play billiard on the upper level. Food is okay but not too impressive.

Very nice place to eat and drink something after hard work. Lovely old and new hard rock and heavy metal music. Very special thanks for the furniture and design! Staff are very nice and speak any language

Great food & low prices. Kitchen is open till really late, which makes it a great place to go if you wanna eat smth good at 00:00 in the night. Good portions, friendly staff. Music used to be super loud, which was a minus for me personally but now they put the music lower so now you can also have a discussion in a relaxed manner ☺

THE place to go if you're into alternative or rock music. The food is good, nothing outstanding tho. There's a Pizza-Flatrate on Sunday evenings which is really worth it's money if you wanna hang out there with friends for a few hours.
