Great place to have a snack or dinner after a nice walk from downtown Freiburg. The menu is typical German fare, however it is well prepared and very tasty. The restaurant has an old hunting lodge feel to it and there are plenty of seating inside or outside. You can get there by cat but it's every small and winding road so do be careful.

This spot is amazing for a satisfying dinner after hiking up the mountain. The food is classy and delicious, and the staff is exceptionally nice and friendly. I highly recommend it for a memorable dining experience.

Just a beautiful experience walking through the woods with lovely birds chimes, beautiful flowers blooms and the green trees tall trees was a dream come through. And the best part was having a mouth watering food up in the woods with such a beautiful scenery. I loved it to the max. It’s really worth the trip there. A friend recommended the veggie burger but I had the lentils curry and I absolutely loved it.
It took me 1hr and 20mins to get there from the Stadtgarten through the hiking route and it was just magical. And not to forget this place is over 500 years old. Huuu yes please take me back .

Superb location in the Forrest where you need to treat yourself after a hike in the hills of Schwarzwald. The menu is full of attitude and local food. Lots of vegetarian options - actually you need to proceed to the “Tierish” section of the menu to find food with animals. This is what €42 got us:

Beautiful setting with kind and helpful staff. The food is glorious and quite special. Definitely recommend it. You can hike from freiburg Town centre within 1hr.

We had been suggested this place by a local. We hiked up there on a hot day and it was totally worth it. The staff were accommodating, the food was healthy, hearty. Their take on Indian vegetarian options (the masala) was original, different and yet hit the right spots. We also had the gazpacho and fish soup which was amazing. Chef Michael really did a great job .

Lovely place to end up after a day of cycling through Schwarzwald. Can be quite full and unfortunately can be booked out for weddings/parties (as it was on our visit). Still, they have extra places but not as nice as under the huge tree. Refreshing beer🍺🍻🍺

The service is fast and so polite. Payment can be done by cash or card. There was a wedding celebration happening meanwhile when i went with my friends and everything was decorated so beautiful. The food is delicious. Not so many options for vegan or vegeterians.

I have been there several times with my colleagues , my sister and my fiance. Some of the colleagues liked the food while for some was ok. But my sister and my fiance and I really liked the food there. We ordered different foods which all were very tasty. The Schnitzel and Kartoffelsalat were really tasty for me. Also the Kürbissuppe and Käsespätzle were both super delicious. I really like this restaurant. But it depends on the taste of people. From me it gets highest rank .

Delicious food choices, fantastic beer!! Seemed more like a hometown pub with a five star restaurant menu and presentation. Thanks for the great meal after the hike in the Black Forest.

Hiked here from the campsite and enjoyed a lovely bowl of goulash soup and a beer sat outside in the sunshine. Food was lovely, service was brisk and not particularly friendly but it didn’t spoil our enjoyment.

Awesome over 500 years restaurant. Delicious food made of local, natural ingredients​. Really friendly, helpful and professional staff. Worth to walk or bike here.

Hard to find (-> follow Kartäuser Str.), but worth a visit. Excellent food. Sit below huge trees. Children's playground. And a chapel where "Otilia" gets back her eyesight.
