Gasthaus Bauerntafel auf St.Barbara

Wonderful restaurant in the hills of the Black Forest of Southern Germany on the outskirts of Freiburg. You need to hike up to it, it has a beautiful view of the valleys below. I believe it was a nunnery at one point. Food was really good and service was also really good.

I went here right as they opened, did not need to reserve a table, as it was not very busy time (3:20). We quickly sat down and enjoyed our beer+radler. We orderd both two tapas, which was both enough for us to be relatively full however if you are starving or feel decadent three tapas would suffice. The food was well priced and tasted great. The Brägele (similar to Bratkartoffeln) was very good and very cheap. Great experience

Super nice place, good service and amazing food.

I am from Italy and I have been living abroad for 15 years now. All those years helped me to understand that part of my culture is enjoying good food. The food in nord European countries can be tough, even though it is easier and easier to find good places. In big cities it is easy, there are enough customers to allow a proper food offer and great locations. Nevertheless within smaller cities, like Freiburg, it can be hard to find outstanding places. Bauerntafel (a.k.a. St. Barbara) is definitely one of those great restaurants. Why I love it? It is located in one of the best spots around, the quality of the food is fantastic and constant and the service is friendly. Moreover it is one of the (uncommon) restaurants in Germany, where quality is more important than quantity. Sometimes it could be difficult to contact them to book a table, but it is 100% worth the patience and the wait.
Highly recommended! This is always my first thought to bring family, friends from all-over the world or work colleagues, who are visiting our office. Weiter so!

Lovely place. Good choice of food. Mostly small plates but great for afternoon hike and bite to eat. View unbelievable. Cake looks also amazing.

The most delicious and authentic Schwarzwaldkirchtorte (Blackforest Cake) you'll ever eat (well atleast in Freiburg :)). Their tapas are also delicious, plus the view is great. Better reserve a table for the weekends.

Das Essen ist super lecker und einfallsreich, netter, sehr aufmerksamer Service. Es ist zwar nicht das günstigste, aber man zahlt auch für die wunderschöne Location und großartige Aussicht. Gute Wein- und Bierauswahl.
