On our last night in Freiburg, we decided we wanted as authentic a Freiburger dinner as possible. Given that it was a bank holiday Thursday, we weren’t feeling hopeful that we would get a table. However the friendly and helpful member of staff that greeted us, seated us immediately. Felt very lucky to get a table without reservation - I recommend making a booking if you can. The restaurant is nicely furnished and decorated. We ordered the white asparagus soup, shnitzel, bragale. Everything exceeded our expectations and gave a good impression for traditional German cuisine. Overall it was a lovely meal and we were surprised at the reasonable price given the quality of the overall experience. The only downside was really a fault of our own for not noticing that there was a stew style sauce (Jägersoße) which would have made a good accompaniment for the schnitzel. Maybe next time!

A really old-fashioned, authentic and excellent restaurant. I wouldn't have known about it were it not for my sister-in-law, who lived nearby when she went to Freiburg University more than 40 years ago. First off, there are no menus. Each day's "specials" are on a chalkboard, and they always have there go-to fare (schnitzel being their signature dish). The decor is notably early 20th century - dark, worn and cozy. A nod to the present day is the small outdoor seating area in the alleyway beside. The servings are huge but not expensive and service is very good. But the food1 Here's the true test. I'll go out on a limb and say the schnitzel is the best in Baden. Try to take the streetcar or bus or even walk if you can - parking a car anywhere nearby is nigh impossible.

Really nice place. Homey food served family style. The venue is super cozy and very antique although they are moving soon so check the location properly. I recommend making reservations because is always full.
They don't have a proper menu, they serve Schnitzel no sauce with either potato salad or roasted potatoes. Simple food but done great. They usually also have a couple salads and some other dishes that change, normally including some sort of wild meat from local hunters.

We were four people to go there and ordered Schnitzel, Cordon Bleu and Wurstsalat (sausage salad) with Brägele (sliced, fried potatoes) and Kartoffelsalat (potato salad). The main dishes came with a small salad as a starter. I also ordered a very sweet Radler and got a bottle of Waldhaus beer and a bottle of sweet sparkling water so that I could mix it myself.
All food we ordered was delicious even though the Brägele were slightly too salty for my taste.
The service was good and the waitress had a cute smile. We had a nice time there and I will definately come back. I can recommend this place to anyone who wants to eat real German schnitzel with Brägele.

Old fashioned, traditional food. Some one wrote that it was the best schnitzel they've had in the Baden area... I was sceptical, but proven wrong... Amazing if you love rustic traditional food!

Recommended to us by our host. Out waiter was lovely and very patient with us. We ordered schnitzel with fried potatoes and venison goulash with egg noodles which was delicious. Including 2 beers total came to €35 for 2. Very authentic place frequented by locals. Highly recommended.

Amazing food! Prices are also pretty good. They are usually really busy so make a reservation and be prepared to wait while you are there but it is all worth it

If you like schnitzel at all this is the place you have to go. They don't have a menu so the waiter will introduce you to the available dishes of the day but rest assured the (pork)schnitzel is always one of them. Super thin and simply perfect. Currently it's asparagus season and the options were amazing. If you go on a weekend book ahead and this is popular as.

Best German food I've have since living in Germany (for 1.5 years). There is no menu. Schnitzel, fried potatoes, and salad were very delicious. Service was normal, not extraordinary but not bad. Only downside is that waiters should warn customers that sharing a plate costs 3 euros. In this case I would have gotten my own small schintzel rather than share the large.

Great food! Before I became vegetarian, I had the best schnitzel there. Make sure you book a table before. Don’t forget that you can always take away the unfinished food.
