Hotel Aranjuez

What a quirky, unusual hotel! A little bit magical. Small hallways in every direction, partial gardens, unexpected rooms...and everything with a consistent decor of very colorful local folk art, mainly carved masks with torsos covered in gowns! Various sizes. So cool!
The hotel is very clean, staff friendly, informal. Breakfast was a plentiful buffet. Highly recommended to those who like a diversion from all the chain hotels (ugh!).

What a wonderful hotel! It's made up of five houses from the 1930's so you come across beautiful art, large and small Costa Rican folk figures, unexpected greenery and little seating areas as you go from your room to the breakfast area. The included breakfast buffet has a huge variety of choices including lots of fresh fruit, or you can get custom cooked eggs and pancakes. The beautiful eating area consists of indoor and outdoor seating surrounded by a garden with large trees. Rooms and baths were very clean, plenty of hot water, and the staff were very friendly. The hotel is on a quiet street but an easy walk to downtown and museums. We ate at the adjacent restaurant "11.47" which was modern and had an excellent menu using local products. The term "unique" is overused, but perfectly applies here. We've stayed at this hotel three times and always had a great experience. Highly recommended.

We stayed here the night we arrived in San Jose and the night before we left. The rooms are comfortable, unique in character, and quiet at night. The garden areas add a special ambiance and the breakfast was delicious! We also ate in the restaurant 11-47 that is adjacent to the hotel and it was one of the best meals we’ve ever had. What we are really so grateful for however was the caring service we received from the staff for an issue with our rental car that was quite stressful and complicated. They were lifesavers and helped us diligently along the way to resolve the situation in a timely manner. Thank you so much Hotel Aranjuez! We are eternally grateful.

Come for the great price, stay for the amazing breakfast! They have a great little garden yard that attracts so many beautiful birds. Davide was such a a gracious host and made navigating the city very easy. Can't wait to stay here again.

Amazing location lovely bars just a 10min walk away. Staff really friendly. Food in the evening was the best meal I've had this year dining out. The bar man was excellent welcoming and friendly. The chefs are great. Good ambience we stayed 2 nights reasonably priced breakfast included. Would recommend.

Rooms are nice. Bathrooms are acceptable. But the star of the show is the complementary breakfast. It's also a nice that it's located walking distance from museums and the mercado central.

I simply cannot say enough wonderful things about this hotel- super walkable to the parque nacional (5-10 minutes, less than 20 to Mercado central) with a beautiful restaurant/bar next to it. We absolutely loved the breakfasts, the decor, and the rooms were cute and comfortable. I will stay here hands down every single time I come back, you cannot beat the price and cultural experience! Please put your money into a local establishment like this one!

Enjoy a lush green jungle as your backyard! The photos don't do this place justice. It's not the Marriott or the Hilton-it feels like a turn of the century house. But every room is tastefully decorated with cool local art, and there isn't a single room or hallway that doesn't have beautiful flowers and plants. I counted three indoor gardens and a massive backyard where I spotted five different birds in 20 minutes. The beds are very comfortable and the rooms are clean. The neighborhood is very lively during the day (there are 3-4 hospitals/clinics nearby--so you'll see doctors, nurses, and students). It is very quiet at night.

My husband and I have stayed in this hotel several times. It is perfect for staying a couple days in San José. The area is quiet and pacific, the rooms are good and the whole decoration is nice. It also gives you a great feeling of how a traditional costarican house looks

Lovely hotel with unique rooms throughout. It feels like a charming step back in time... to a cozier, softer, more peaceful era. My favorite aspect are the gardens. The breakfast is fabulous with an assortment of different options.

Love this hotel! Had a peaceful room overlooking an interior garden. Lots of character throughout the room and the rest of the hotel. Hot shower with strong water pressure. Great ceiling fan above the comfortable bed. Airflow is a crucial aspect of a good room, and they respect this at Aranjuez! I wished there were table lamps. Really liked the layout and the relaxed, vintage vibe of the hotel. While it feels wonderfully like the 1930s in some ways, it’s totally modern in conveniences. Will def stay here again if I go to San Jose again. Friend had a cool and comfortable room too. Staff were lovely people and super helpful with car parking, a date mixup, and restaurant recommendations (the place next door is delicious). I wished they had on-site Blovid testing. But everything else was great, including the price of the room. 👍

Andres... amazing. He was the most hospital host ever while I was stuck in San Jose due to a terrible storm in the states and several cancelled flights. I enjoyed this amazing oatmeal/granola breakfast each morning which was included in my stay. Rooms are small and perfect for an airport stay over, but this quaint hotel became my home for three days and I was so grateful for it. For the price, you get a small room with a private bathroom which is perfect especially if traveling solo or with one other person. The decor is unique and fun to explore. Located near an upscale shopping area with lots of restaurants and sodas, great location on a quiet street about 25 mins from the airport. I can’t thank Andres and the staff enough for making me feel welcome, at home and safe as a single female backpacker who was originally just ‘passing through’. Will definitely stay here again when I return to Costa Rica. Thanks again!

Amazing! Staff was super nice and helpful. The location is close to everything you need especially if you're making it a short stay. The hotel itself is awesome. Very organic and artistic. Cool art displays and cozy spots to read next to nature. The breakfast buffet was great and the restaurant next door was to die for. Don't forget to make a reso right away because it is #6 of the top ten restaurants in San Jose. I just loved this hotel. It's very trendy and has everything you need. It was very clean at all times.

I loved this hotel! So beautiful! The staff was welcoming and helpful, providing suggestions and helping us find shuttles to the beach. The breakfast was delicious, especially the omelette station and the traditional Costa Rican food. Our bed was comfy, our bathroom was fairly large, and the outdoor lounging area was a beautiful place to enjoy the birds and squirrels and a cup of coffee.

Fantastic hotel. Stayed here on our first night of the holiday before touring CR. stayed here again on the last night too. Lovely place, really quirky decor, amazing breakfast and a nice garden area. After a long flight I had a lovely cold beer and sat in the hanging pod chair. Heaven it was !!

Great location, great room, great staff. Hotel Aranjuez is a perfect hotel for your transit through San José (let's face it, that's what people are doing). Open late, safe, with a worldly, multilingual staff, good beds and decent showers, and a massive buffet breakfast in the garden to boot. Sure, it's a bit noisy in the morning, as people are up and about and travelling somewhere, and it's located in an old series of connected homes with lots of windows and common spaces. But the place has character, is in a great neighbourhood within walking distance of everything you need, and, again, the staff is super helpful and very friendly. I will definitely be back!

Incredible quiet "urban jungle" setting in the middle of the city, comfortable rooms, and the best breakfast of our trip (we started our trip here and all other breakfasts looked disappointing in comparison...)

Great more boutique, local feel. Large rooms, nothing fancy but really great area to stay (near Barrio Escalante). Breakfast was a highlight, but only got to enjoy briefly before heading out early for the day. Safe area, friendly people. It's basically the opposite of a Holiday Inn Express - so if you like those places, avoid this one.

Very clean and comfortable spot to stay in San Jose. Beautiful gardens, great included breakfast. We walked to the National Museum, Jade Museum and Central Market easily.
