Savory a la Thai

I've been wanting to try their food for a while now despite living fairly fair away. I was in the area last night and had the green papaya salad which was tasty and a fairly large portion size, though a 4 out of 10 spiciness was still fairly hot. After that I had the ginger chicken which was also very good.
Overall I was happy and plan to visit again when I'm in the area.

When we came to Costa Rica for vacation we didn’t think we would find our new favorite Thai restaurant, but here we are.

First, let’s start off with the warning that they are reservation only (due to COVID?), so make sure you reserve a table! It’s worth it!

Everything we tried was outstanding. We started with the fried wontons (with pork) and fresh spring rolls. They came out on a plate that looked like a work of art. Normally wontons aren’t my personal favorite, but I loved these! The edges were thin and crispy and I loved that! Word of caution that the fresh spring rolls were messier than I’ve ever had, but they were jam packed with flavor. Well worth having to scrape up the last few bites with a fork and I have no regrets. Surprisingly, they included shredded beet, which is an obsession of mine, so I was thrilled with both appetizers! Both came with a sweet-chili sauce that was good enough that I could have drank it.

The server who took our order asked how spicy we wanted our dishes on a 1-10 scale. We chose a drunken noodle dish with chicken (level 7) and a cashew chicken dish (level 4). If you’ve read this far you can probably guess that I’m going to tell you both of these dishes were perfect as well. The level 7 was pretty spicy, but I like a strong kick to my dishes, so the drunken noodles were everything I could have wanted. We also loved that the cashew chicken was slightly breaded and deliciously seasoned.

If you like, love, or have even a mild interest in Thai food, this restaurant simply must be tried!!

The only place in Costa Rica, that at least I know, with Thai authentic food!!! The AMAZING and TALENTED chef, Ms. Addie, is not only a genius but a real Thai authentic cook. She is from Bangkok and you can taste the real flavors of Thai dishes using local ingredients, they even harvest some of the ingredients that can’t be found easily in our country. She purchase locally and very high quality ingredients for her dishes, you can notice it from the taste and the freshness on each plate. This place is absolutely a most try if you are around the place, even if you are not, you make a plan to go to Savory a la Thai for the day, it’s an event and you will want to go back again and again. The price is reasonable, specially for the perfect execution on every dish, she nails every single one all the time.

This is my fourth time going and I will never get tired of going. Plus, the individual and warm attention they give is an extra detail you appreciate.

¡El único lugar en Costa Rica, que al menos yo sepa, con auténtica comida tailandesa! La increíble y talentosa chef, la Sra. Addie, no solo es una genio sino una auténtica cocinera tailandesa. Ella es de Bangkok y se notan los sabores reales de los platos tailandeses con ingredientes locales, incluso cosechan algunos de los ingredientes que no se pueden encontrar fácilmente en nuestro país. Ella compra ingredientes locales y de muy alta calidad para sus platos, se nota por el sabor y la frescura. Este lugar es absolutamente una parada obligatoria, incluso si no estas cerca, planificas ir a Savory a la Thai por el día, es un evento y querrás volver una y otra vez. El precio es razonable, especialmente para la ejecución perfecta en cada plato, la clava cada uno todo el tiempo.

Esta es la cuarta vez que voy y nunca me cansaré de ir. Además, la atención individual y cálida que brindan es un detalle adicional que se aprecia.

We had some expectations because of previous reviews and for tasting Thai food which we had never tried.. and we decided in our anniversary to try something new.
The place is just magic…. Far away from noisy cities… I can say… hidden in the mountain. You breath peace.. the ambient is so cozy, private, warm… just looking around the place was so great…

Then food came… oh God!!!!
1) Shrimp toast: I could eat them all my life
2) Pai Thai Rolls: those little big rolls with the peanut sauce (pretty sure has a name but don’t know it) and the twist of lemon!!! took me to heaven.
3) Rice with chicken bun: it was ok with a favor closer to our flavors so… flavor ok but not a feeling as the previous 2 dishes.
4) Curry with shrimp.. definitely the best for the end. The most amazing flavor you can imagine on the curry, jasmine rice took it to the next level and vegetables…. Ufffffff. I died!!!

Last but cherry on top, was the owner/waiter… with an impecable attention. He took the time to talk along and created a much better synergy..

Took us 2 hours per way driving to Savory a la Thai… but we’ll get back… ambient, flavor. Attention…. And why not, very reasonable prices, paid quite well the driving.

Truly one of the best restaurant experiences I’ve had in any country. The location is truly beautiful. But as beautiful as the location is, the food is somehow even better. I cannot wait to visit Costa Rica again in part so I can explore the rest of the menu at Savory a la Thai. Lastly, the owners are wonderful and amazingly kind.

Great place to eat. The food is amazing the atmosphere is nice and the staff is wonderful. Reservations are a must.

Crazy good thai food, one of the best pad thai and pad sew I've tried! Owner is super friendly and kind, and prices are really affordable. Really worth the trip!

The food here is absolutely amazing and it’s made with you in mind. My partner and I visited to enjoy several of their dishes and they also range their spice from 1-10. You won’t be disappointed at all. Highly recommend this place. We will definitely be visiting again soon.

Wow what a nice place, vegan options, good drinks and excellent atmosphere in nature with the sound of the river, service great and fast .

Wow, so wonderfully surprised to randomly find this restaurant. Fresh ingredients, small successful adaptations using local produce, delicious authentic flavors, friendly service and peaceful natural ambience. Highly recommended

My wife found this place on Google and offered to go with me, even though she doesn't usually like Thai food. The food here completely changed her mind! Authentic Thai at a reasonable price in an out-of-the-way location with beautiful atmosphere. Highly recommended! If you're coming from San Ramon, just be sure to take the low road, not the high road recommended by Google. The high road (uphill at the fork) leads to a steep, partially-obstructed dirt road, and is only safe with a 4x4, whereas the low road (downhill at the fork) is safe for all cars.

We stumbled over a treacherous bumpy country cow track path (from san carlos: hint arrive from the San Ramon side)! in pursuit of delicious Thai food that is rare to find in Costa Rica. Happily there was a lull in the night, so we were welcomed even without reservations. The owners offer a cozy, delicious and friendly experience. The food is authentic, delicious and you can taste the love that goes in it. Definitely worth the bumpy drive!!! Best coffee too!
Thank you, we’ll be back even if it’s a 3hr drive from our house!!

Love this place. I've gone twice and I have the same feeling of warmth while been there. I love the food, sincerely it's a solid 10/10.
Attention is unique. They will give you a feeling of family. So awesome that you are gonna give them the 5 stars right away.
The place, well, they have been working on it for a while, and it's awesome. Comfy, cosy and a very cool landscape for you to enjoy. Cows and goats are part of the beauty and sometimes a bit of fog makes it better.
No complains, really.

This place isn't just good Costa Rican Thai food, it's great Thai food. Enjoyed everything we tried from here. Their cocktails are also very interesting, creative and delicious! Very friendly owners and they also speak English very well. They even coordinated delivery to our Airbnb.

Savory a la Thai is an absolute gem of a restaurant. By far the best and only REAL Thai food in Costa Rica. The owners are as friendly as they come. It's a bit of a drive from San Jose but it's absolutely worth it. We come every week to get our "fix" of spicy authentic Thai food. If you haven't been here your definently missing out.

Best Thai food I've ever had! Owner is super friendly, food authentic.. wife is from Thailand 🇹🇭 and a trained chef... worth the trip out here. Glad I found it.. road is a little rough but worth the drive. Definitely recommend it. Wish it was closer to home. 😥 😔

We drive about an hour to experience this delicious treat! My husband and I lived in Thailand for several years and this is as close as you’re going to get! Great food and people.
Can’t wait to go back. 😊
