Very interesting place for a tourist. Has witch shop which sells ingredients for curse and spells. Has pet shop selling colourful birds. Has herb shops selling lots of dried herbs, flower shops, small local food shops and souvenirs. Feels like u are 50 years back in time and everyone dressed in special costumes in film sets. Bring your camera. It’s really really interesting and colourful.

Lots of souvenirs, great local food. Good way to spend your time while waiting for your bus to the beach. The 7-10 bus station is only 3 blocks away

Nice capital, a lot of people shopping everyday. Alots of food to choose from and people are friendly. We stay here 3 days and was worth it. I would do the tours with included dinner. It’s worth it.

Great central market. I’ve been here many times to grab some breakfast for around five bucks and some souvenirs. Tons of vendors selling an amazing array of things. I came at 7am this time as I had an earlier flight and almost nothing was open until 8-8:30am which is fine but google has it opening at 6am but only 5 vendors were open. Pura vida!

A must when visiting San José. Numerous restaurants and typical stores immerse you in the atmosphere.
Stop for a soda and a bite to eat, it's a great experience.

Frantic, bustling place with a variety of foods. Go get some icecream and caldosa (ceviche with corn chips served in the chip bag).

Central Market is an experience, an explosion of colour and aroma and sound, with surprises around each corner. I ate brunch there today. So tasty.

Worth while visiting for good local food and snacks at very affordable prices, far lower than most tourist traps downtown.

Super great market with tons of little shops (get your souvenirs there but compare the prices between shops!), food looks amazing everywhere, plenty of locals so you know it's good! It's a must in SJ!

Enormous place with incredible variety. Try the local ice cream with unusual flavors, try the handmade foods and all kinds of items, gifts, souvenirs, herbs, and more. If you've never been here, bring a guide or prepare to get majorly lost as this place is endlessly large.

Loved the market. It’s like a maze and there are delights everywhere. I loved the food stalls. Just find a place with lots of customers. Can’t go wrong. The prices were right. Plenty of good souvenir shops as well.

One of the few must visits in San Jose. Come after 9 when the shops are open and enjoy the unique flair. Also a great option to enjoy authetic local breakfast or food in general

Visiting San José Central Market and spending at least an hour or two in this place like seeing the country ,there is nothing better than picking fresh seasonal fruit and veg from this market ,fresh produce, clothes and household items . Great food, people and vibe and great colorful local market selling all sorts of goods , to general Knick knacks and souvenirs. Worth a visit just to check out and get a feel of what the locals eat and shop for.The shops are unique, everyone is super friendly and I would absolutely come back here.

The best place to get Caldosa (if you don't know, try it and trust me). Or maybe try something from one of the other tiny food stalls. Yep, it's a busy market, so watch your valuables. But seems safe enough, clean and bustling.
