Tabacon Thermal Resort & Spa

Really beautiful resort. The rainforest room we stayed in was very large and fancy, and had a beautiful view! We saw a toucan flying past which was cool. The balcony with the swinging chair is great for reading

The breakfast and dinner here are both also great. And the hot springs and spa/massage experience was also very cool (we got the volcanic mud massage)

The resort itself was beautiful. I went with my mom for a birthday trip and we loved it! On a clear day we could see straight down into the valley from our room! The staff were very helpful and always willing to answer any questions we had or help us however they could! And although a good distance from the airport all of the best local activities are within 30 minutes of the hotel! We saw a ton of wildlife (on and off the resort) and overall had a wonderful experience! They really encapsulate the "Pura Vida" feel!

We went to Tabacon for the day and we were not disappointed. We have been to many hot springs and this resort is at the top of our list of places we would like to revisit someday. The landscaping is spectacular. Finding a little nook by the river all to ourselves and soaking for a couple hours was heavenly. Really nice to have a Non alcoholic beer option! We spent some time in the large pool with the swim up bar as well. The staff were all very polite and helpful.

Amazing hotel and hot springs, a must visit. Rooms and service is impeccable. Entire place is beautiful. People are super nice and it’s easy to get around.

Highly recommend the coffee tasting experience.

Downsides with the food! Worth reading!:

Food is not very good and it’s very overpriced. We ordered room service twice and were disappointed both times.

Some of the images in room service look *really* different than the meals (apple tart looked like a completely different item when it came, not just the quality but the actual desert was different)

The burgers were very oversalted and also expensive. For a $30 burger I’d expect it to be decent, but a five guys burger or an A&W burger would be better and those are fast food. The pasta was simply not good.

Also Near the pool area, they charge $9 dollars for a small (in your palm) coconut. It would cost probably 50 cents from a store. Understandably it will be a few dollars since it’s a resort, but that price is really unfortunate price gouging, and you won’t see that bill until you leave so be careful.

Overall 100% come here, but maybe consider some other food options and also be careful with the non obvious pricing near pools

Amazing property! Very lush and well designed. Views of Arenal are spectacular, and the hot springs are literally a 3min shuttle ride. Close to zip lining and hanging bridge activities. Food and staff were very great too!

The resort was very nice. My room (432) was clean and updated. The grounds immaculate filled with tropical plants and greenery. The hot springs was everything! So many hidden waterfalls and places to chill. The food at the bar was best and the breakfast was not bad either. Very nice! I would definitely stay there again.

Didn’t stay at the resort but did the hot springs day pass. The grounds are beautiful. There’s several hot springs to see and it never felt crowded. Lunch was included in the pass which was nice. There’s also a cool swim up bar we enjoyed. Definitely worth the money for the day pass!

Superb hotel experience and lovely accommodating staff. My only gripes are that rooms didn’t have a patio/balcony to enjoy the weather. And the only swimming pool option had very limited hours. Sure you can go to the hot springs after dark (simply stunning) but a hotel of this stature should have the pool open later too for an early morning dip or late evening chill.

My husband and I were here a few days ago and had the best time. This resort far exceeded our expectations! Everything was great including their
Breakfast buffet and food in general, Spa services, Hot springs and Room service! The beautiful thermal springs with area reserved for hotel guests were our highlight, as were the massages in the rain forest setting! Loved the helpful
Vibe and Pura Vida energy! Special shout out to Juan José at the front desk who went out of the way to pick up oil painting medium for me from town so I could paint! Thank you so much! We’ll definitely be recommending this place and be returning when we come back to Costa Rica! 🇨🇷

I was pleasantly surprised by how uncrowded Tabacon was. I was expecting the hot springs to be crawling with tourists, but more than half the time my husband and I had the hot spring we were in to ourselves. We especially liked the hot springs in the Shangri La Gardens area (reserved for hotel guests only) because the springs were the hottest and they were the most secluded as well.

This was also, without question, the most stunning resort we stayed at. The gardens were perfectly manicured.

Food was great overall, although admittedly a little pricey.

Was a great place to stay for our honeymoon. Would highly recommend!

Our stay at Tabacon was an exceptional experience. The detail put in to the design of every part of the resort was astounding. The hot springs were incredibly beautiful and relaxing. The two resturants on the property were phenomenal. Especially Los Tucanes, where every menu item exceeded expectations and each dish was carefully crafted with the perfect combination of flavors. Last but definitely not least, the staff at the resort was the cherry on top to a perfect stay. Every staff member was extremely polite, welcoming, and always had a smile on their face. The following staff members that we had the pleasure of dealing with often deserve to be recognized for their amazing hospitality, grace, and kindness: Fabian, Oscar, Emmerson, Josue, Helen, Hugo, Jos, Rodrigo, and our taxi driver Omar.

We can't say enough about how well we were treated here. I want to start off with the cleaning staff, who are the unsung heroes of any stay. We came home from the hot springs to our bathroom and all of the toiletries contained within immaculately organized. Wet bathing suits hung to dry, shoes cleaned and lined up by the door.
The minute we arrived we were greeted with fresh berry lemonade and cooled lemongrass scented towels to combat the wild humidity and heat.
All of the staff were attentive and welcoming. They went out of their way to ensure our visit was everything we imagined.
Now, the hot springs. We've traveled to spas, various hot springs both natural and man made, pools, saunas. But the tabacon hot springs are a special place. Granted we were there before the busy season ramped up. Simply walking though the grounds was beautiful. Soaking in private areas under both gentle and aggressive, massage like waterfalls was exactly what we were looking for.

The concierge was reaching out to us weeks in advance in case we needed anything and followed up after our stay. We had our trip planned out and didn't need much from them but they were attentive and on tip of everything.

We can't recommend this area enough and we will definitely be back in the future.

A well thought out experience. The hot springs day pass cost $110 and worth it, they offer lockers and showers so you can go to dinner directly from the day at the springs. Also had a spa service here and it was the best massage I’ve ever had, masseuse was named Stephanie. She was amazing!

Tabacon has been the highlight of our family trip to Costa Rica. This resort has allowed us to completely relax and disconnect from our busy city life back in Miami. The hotel grounds are absolutely beautiful and well taken care of. The entire staff from the greeters, front desk, waiters, environmental services were all exceptional. The thermal springs are so beautiful and the area is large enough to have a thermal pool all to your selves. The entire hotel is spotless and well taken care of. The shuttle to the springs was easily available and we never waited more 2 minutes for the shuttle to transport us. The breakfast buffet was delicious and the servers were all excellent. The room was cleaned every day and left impeccable. We ordered room service twice and the food was delicious and the price was not too expensive. We would definitely recommend Tabacon to anyone that truly wants to mentally and physically relax and disconnect. We will definitely be back.

What an amazing experience to be here and spent a day to relax, the location, the view, and the atmosphere its very tranquil. The food is delicious too its worth every penny. Thank you for making our Costa Rica trip memorable.

The hot springs were one of the best experiences we’ve had. Worth every penny to come here and enjoy. Amazing grounds and well maintained. You can really spend a whole day here. It’s so fun when it rains and you’re in the water! Can’t wait to return someday again.

Staying at Tabacon for 4 nights was wonderful. The hotel is only a 10 minute drive from la Fortuna, so it's easy to do tours/activities. Then in the afternoon or evening the hotel facilities, including beautiful pools with thermal water, private gardens with hot springs exclusively for hotel guests, and the pool bar, are perfect for relaxing.
Staff were always attentive to our needs and definitely went the extra mile to help whenever we needed something.
Cocktails were very good in both bars. The food was okay but not amazing. This also includes breakfast, which was a little underwhelming when compared to hotels of a similar calibre in Costa Rica.
Overall, this is a beautiful hotel, with fantastic rooms, great pools in a unique setting and nice cocktail bars. Some opportunities for improvement on the food.

After visiting the thermal hot springs on a day pass 4 years ago, we knew we had to come back and stay at the 5-star resort. We just spent the most incredible 4 nights here and we will definitely be back again. From the incredible Epehermal Table dinner to the one of the best relaxation massages I have ever had, I cannot express how wonderful this place truly is. Our room and view was spectacular and the hotel guest (over 18 so quiet) area Shangri-La Gardens at the hot springs was just perfect too. Heaven on Earth!

The finest hotel/spa we have ever stayed at.
We can not possibly think of anything Tabacon could do better. Here are a few observations:
1. The staff is ALWAYS so very kind and welcoming. Every passing includes a smile and a greeting. The staff is the number one reason anyone going to the Fortuna area should stay at Tabacon.
2. The thermal hot springs are absolutely amazing. Lots of interesting places to sit and relax. While it was busy, it certainly was not overcrowded in any way.
3. Clean as a whistle. Everything. Spotless.
4. What a breakfast buffet! Lots of options, and all of it 5 stars. We never ate lunch as we were satisfied until dinner.
5. Fantastic on-site restaurant. Food was terrific, and once again, the service was 5 stars.

I've been to a few hot springs, but nothing like this. Beautiful does not do it justice... must visit. This is what Disney trues to cppy!
After a stay in a US Marriott, then a Westin on the Costa Rican Beach...I was wowed from complacency upon arrival at the Tabacon. It was a nice step up. Beautiful rooms, powerful showers and first class restaurant. We arrived late and staff sped up the process for our group...we were in our rooms super fast. Food has been local and interesting while beautifully presented. Shuttles run to hot springs soooo often. Plants are beautiful! Wow. Recommend!
