We saw this monument but did not go inside of it. We did stay in The Walled City, which was amazing. The juxtaposition of seeing all of the well-preserved and historical buildings with the modern skyline of the city center was not lost on me. Beautiful! We spent 3 days here and enjoyed our stay immensely. The food, the culture, the art, and the people made our stay so much better than imagined.

Cartagena is truly one of the most beautiful places on the Colombian map! Stunning. Old architecture, smiling faces, and the sweet scent of local food being cooked in the square permeates the air.

There is a hustle and bustle of street markets, fine dining and so many small businesses that dot the rambling cobbled streets that you will be split for choice.

CCTV and police presence provide that additional sense of security to preserve the feeling that tourists are safe and regarded. It's probably more of a visual promise to suggest that improper behavior is neither tolerated nor ignored.

Despite all the warnings to be mindful of yourself and your goods, all we ever witnessed was an eagerness for the locals to sell their wares (famous candies, empanadas, and pastries) at this stunning historical location.

We were here on New years Eve, and it was absolutely beautiful!
We came again a few days later in the daytime, and it is just as beautiful! Cartagena is awesome, and this is an obligated visit!

Very cool touristy spot. Lots of shops and carriage rides if you're into that. Lots of vendors and if you don't want to be bothered say no thank you and keep it moving. Pretty safe.

The monument was under construction and the view was restricted. Nevertheless, Christmas decorations and lights made it look better 😉

This place is pure magic…. You can walk it in the daytime and you’ll get to see lots of small shops selling artisan hand made stuff… watching the sunset is a must for this place… the whole scene is breathtaking and you will experience the best sunset in Cartagena…nighttime the whole place turns into a hangout where you can bar hop between all the bars and rooftops around the place… Uber accesible so you will have a ride … prices are very affordable on drinks and hookah…there is a spot for every music preference! I was there on the weekend and a couple of days of the week. The weekends are the busiest. This is the entrance to the walled city. There are a lot of locals selling trinkets, art, travel packages, themselves. When you think someone is being helpful they are usually looking for a tip. Other than that, the city is beautiful. This area is located across from a marina where you can embark on a party boat or catch other forms of transportation. The are some nice rooftop bars, boutiques and restaurants in the walled city in the area. I definitely plan on going back. I love the city vibe.

This is really something to see...
what they call the wall in Cartagena. now that i googled it i know....History of the Walls of Cartagena

It was built at the end of the XVI century for the defense of the city. Its construction began on September 8 of 1614, after the attack of the legendary Sir Francis Drake and by order of King Philip III. The Italian architect, Carlos de Roda Antonelli, was responsible for the first stage of construction, which took 15 years, during which 15 bastions were built with the clear influence of Italian style. Later, in 1608, Cristóbal de Roda was commissioned to fortify the vast majority of the city that faces the open sea.

It is the best place to start in the Walled City. We met our guide Alonso Lopez there to start our private walking tour of the area for $20 each. On Saturday evening there were dancers in front that were incredible. There are the "palenques" ladies with the fruit basket in traditional dress you can pay to take pics with. We were told 10 - 20 mil is appropriate because they don't give you an outright price.

In colonial times this was the only entrance to the city, it enters directly into the main plaza where and when in colonial times slaves were sold, now is very different and this entrance is where you will find guided tours around the colonial Cartagena , prepare to be amazed by the history, architectures, colors, flavors of delicious candies, fruits and drinks, and much more, from time to time people will approach you to sell something to you , but they are jot as intense as in the past , enjoy

Nice place, 2nd visit here and this time round there weren't as many people as 2 years ago, maybe due to the rain lately. But nonetheless, that did not stop the people from coming to this place. Loved the colonial buildings around the walled city and the bright colors. Lots of things to look at and buy. You can find a lot of restaurants and bars here. Foods are great 👍 no problem in finding them.
