Ahu Tahai

These Moai are within easy walking distance of Hangaroa. One platform has five statues. There are two other statues nearby. It's a beautiful setting.

Amazing place to watch the sunset. You dont need a guide for this area, just make sure to bring something to seat on the grass. Be aware there are no restaurants on this area.

Gorgeous spot that you will get drawn back to a lot during your stay on Rapa Nui. This is the perfect area to just relax in front of the Moai 🗿 and reflect on where you are! This is one of two sites that you can access without a guide and the most easily accessible too, right next to town. The highlight of any visit to Rapa Nui includes watching the sunset over here.

Thank god this place can be accessed without a guide, otherwise there would be nothing you can do alone. For that reason it automatically gets 5 stars. It features a fully-restored Moai with its eyes and top-knot. Worth walking here every night to catch the sunset. For the best pictures of the Moai, visit mid-morning.

Ahu Tahai is where most of the hotels do the sunset trip. We were staying at the Hangaroa Eco Village and they arranged a sunset trip here, which included food and wine. Its actually the perfect place to see the sunset behind the Moai. This is definitely worth doing.

Site with ancient boat houses, chicken coops, caves, fire pits, and of course moai. This is very close to Hanga Roa. Some of the site is restored with most natural ruins.

What an amazing place to go. No drones are allowed in the park and heavily patrolled. Bring a hat and sunblock as it gets really hot during the day.

Great place to take the family

Well, photos do not lie. This place is beautiful, mysterious and easy to visit. You can easily spend two hours just watching at the Moais. There is no trash and the dogs you can meet are friendly. Just be careful to not cross the line.

This was the place where it hit me... I'm in the Easter Islands. The magic of it undeniable with horses and wild dogs running through the meadows and the waves crushing against the shore. The locals recommend coming here for the sunset, but it's just as stunning any day or night.

The greatest sunset at Rapa nui island. It would be useful to carry a torch and check if you miss any of your belongings before leaving, as there are no lights around when it gets dark. Don't forget to brink some drinks too :)

The must go place for sunset if you are in Easter Island.

Be sure to check the sunset time before going as Easter Island is in a "wrong" timezone and sunrises and sunsets are pretty late.

Be careful not to step of any ahu, unless you want to hear a loud whistle and everyone looking at you:)

Go here every night if you love sunsets and photography. Every evening the colors of the sky are different and seeing moais just make it that much more special.

this is probably the closer ahu you'll get to visit, 5 minutes walking from hanga Roa downtown, but also one of the most fascinating when is sunset time! just sit down and enjoy the show of colors! even though by sunset is the time to go if you wanna have good light for photography purpose the best is to be there in the morning when the sun will kiss the Moai ;)
