The moai statues are worth the visit alone. But stay longer to experience the wonderful people and their beautiful culture, which they have preserved and grown against all odds.

The isolated place with magic. Can feel the profound tranquility when looking at the crystal blue sea, hearing the sound of the tide, or bathing in the lingering warmth of the setting sun.

I traveled here all the way from Scotland, UK and loved every bit of this magical Island. Rent a car, get some good walking shoes, buy yourself a data sim card and you're ready for this gem. Each of the Ahu is unique, some have better preserved Moai than others. Lovely people and lots of wild, super friendly dogs running around. It is a good place for rest. A truly magical Island.

The most incredible place I've ever been to. Beautiful island with a surprisingly diverse landscape. The palm tree lined beach makes you feel like your in a typical Polynesian island paradise, and on a windy day the rocky shores on the other side of the island give an impression of being on the Faeröer islands. You can hike the 3 vulcanos, you can swim with sea turtles and of course admire the Moai. The people were super kind. The food was fantastic. This place will be forever in my heart!

Easter Island, also known as Rapa Nui, is a captivating destination that boasts a unique blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and archaeological wonders. This remote island in the Pacific Ocean is famous for its iconic moai statues, which are an extraordinary testament to the island's ancient civilization.

Visiting Easter Island feels like stepping into a mysterious world filled with awe-inspiring landscapes. The rugged coastline, dramatic cliffs, and pristine beaches create a striking backdrop for exploration. The island is relatively small, making it easily navigable, and the sense of isolation adds to its charm.

The highlight of Easter Island undoubtedly lies in its archaeological treasures. The moai statues, with their imposing presence, are a sight to behold. These massive stone figures, scattered across the island, carry an air of mystery and provoke wonder about the island's past. Exploring the various moai sites, such as Ahu Tongariki and Rano Raraku, offers a glimpse into the island's rich history and the ancient craftsmanship that created these monumental sculptures.

Aside from the moai, Easter Island offers opportunities for outdoor activities and immersing oneself in nature. Hiking trails lead to stunning viewpoints like Maunga Terevaka, the highest point on the island, offering panoramic vistas of the island's picturesque landscapes. Exploring the volcanic craters, caves, and rock formations adds an adventurous element to the experience.

The local culture of Easter Island is vibrant and welcoming. Interacting with the Polynesian-descendant Rapa Nui people provides insight into their customs, traditions, and way of life. Visitors can enjoy traditional music, dance performances, and indulge in delicious Polynesian cuisine.

One consideration when planning a trip to Easter Island is its remote location, which requires careful logistics and a longer travel duration. However, the journey is well worth it for the unique and unforgettable experiences that await.

In conclusion, Easter Island is a mesmerizing destination that combines natural beauty, archaeological wonders, and cultural richness. Exploring the moai statues, immersing oneself in the island's history, and embracing its enchanting landscapes create a truly unforgettable adventure.

Easter Island (Rapa Nui: Rapa Nui, Spanish: Isla de Pascua) is a Chilean island in the southeastern Pacific Ocean, at the southeasternmost point of the Polynesian Triangle in Oceania. Easter Island is most famous for its nearly 1,000 extant monumental statues, called moai, created by the early Rapa Nui people. In 1995, UNESCOnamed Easter Island a World Heritage Site, with much of the island protected within Rapa Nui National Park.

It is believed that Easter Island's Polynesian inhabitants arrived on Easter Island sometime near 1200 AD. They created a thriving and industrious culture, as evidenced by the island's numerous enormous stone moai and other artifacts. However, land clearing for cultivation and the introduction of the Polynesian rat led to gradual deforestation.By the time of European arrival in 1722, the island's population was estimated to be 2,000–3,000. European diseases, Peruvian slave raiding expeditions in the 1860s, and emigration to other islands, e.g. Tahiti, further depleted the population, reducing it to a low of 111 native inhabitants in 1877.

Chile annexed Easter Island in 1888. In 1966, the Rapa Nui were granted Chilean citizenship. In 2007 the island gained the constitutional status of "special territory." Administratively, it belongs to the Valparaíso Region, comprising a single commune of the Province Isla de Pascua. The 2017 Chilean census registered 7,750 people on the island, of whom 3,512 (45%) considered themselves Rapa Nui.

Easter Island is one of the most remote inhabited islands in the world. The nearest inhabited land (around 50 residents in 2013) is Pitcairn Island, 2,075 kilometres (1,289 mi) away; the nearest town with a population over 500 is Rikitea, on the island of Mangareva, 2,606 km (1,619 mi) away; the nearest continental point lies in central Chile, 3,512 kilometres (2,182 mi) away.

Easter Island is considered part of Insular Chile.

Pictures can’t really do justice to the moai. There is a spiritual feel to many of the sites. The quarry was quite impressive. The petroglyphs were fascinating. We enjoyed learning about the Birdman competition.

One of the most isolated places on Earth, posses a more mystical pull and emanates a magnetic, mysterious vibe. Endowed with the most logic defying statues on the planet- the strikingly familiar moai. Besides the open air museum. Diving, snorkeling, and surfing are fabulous. On land, there no better eco friendly way to experience the island’s savage beauty than on foot, bike or on horseback.
