By far, the best food I've ever been loved by. New Grain, a culinary gem amongst stones, has a special dedication to local ingredients that makes the owner's vision a complete magic carpet ride; dining here is not just a meal but a journey through the seasons, a celebration of the land, and a feeling that you've been cared for. My mouth always waters with tears when I eat here and I'm proud of the work this establishment is doing. Do yourself a favour and eat here—one of everything if you have the room.

Thank you, Genevieve. I'll be sure to ask for seconds ✌😎

By far the best sour dough loaves I have had. Please do yourself a favor and get your bread from here if you are in the island.
I tried their classic, cheese and garlic sour dough loaves and was left with a watery mouth so much so that I had to stock up before returning back to Toronto so I could keep having this bread for a few more days :)

I even brought some as gifts for my siblings.
I also tried their pistachio and cardimom buns and the pecan buns. Both absolutely delicious.
Can't recommend them enough. Easily the highlight of my visit to the island when it comes to food.

As if that wasn't enough, Andrew and his partner are amazing people. They were very pleasant to talk to and very accommodating given they had stock.

On a recent day trip from Sudbury to Manitoulin Island, the true destination (aka culinary-gold-at-the-end-of-the-rainbow) was the newly re-opened and soft-launching New Grain Bakery and Kitchen. The menu is equal parts innovation, care, farm-to-table goodness and comfort. Genevieve and Will source darn near every single thing on Manitoulin and it shows up in the bright flavours, varied textures and technicolor palette of every dish. The table became a canvas and they used every colour on the island for their inventive, of-the-moment menu. And for those who have been following Genevieve’s journey, it was an arduous trek full of resilience, courage, faith, community, and preservance to finally and more fully arrive in Gore Bay. It shows up in thoughtful, gullet-delighting, hard-won fare. For us, few things have been more worth the trip than the meal we so thoroughly enjoyed at New Grain. We are both grateful and well fed, and we will return!

We came here on our last night on the island and wished we'd found it sooner.

As much as I enjoy fish and chips and burgers, I was missing a bit of variety (and looking for more than ketchup and mustard as "spices").

We found New Grain to be exactly what we'd been missing on the island - tasty food, with a mix of meat and vegetables, presented beautifully, but not pretentiously.

Manitoulin isn't exactly known for its sophisticated culinary scene so upon arriving here, I had to temper my expectations. I had read many reviews praising New Grain prior to coming here but I had my reservation. But upon meeting Jenevieve and having her walk us through the menu and seeing her culinary vision, any doubt I had went out the window. What I appreciated the most was how much care was put into giving us the best culinary experience. Jenevieve was honest and earnest in her recommendations. The food brought our taste buds to life! It was colourful, imaginative and totally unexpected. It was my girlfriend's birthday and we were surprised with a bonus dessert which we appreciated so much. Jenevieve's partner from Manchester who's name escapes me, is an absolute a wizard in the kitchen and made our amazing dessert. Like many reviewers before me, I see a bright future for Jenevieve and her partner! I'm excited to have a go to spot now on Manitoulin!

We had creamy polenta with smoked scapes, smoked trout fish cake, and a maple syrup brulee rhubarb and custard donut.

It was an incredible experience. The creamy polenta dish was a particular standout. Such an incredibly balanced collection of tastes and textures, from the parsley/scape oil, to the nest of scapes that can be twirled like pasta in the creamy polenta....this is Michelin star level food right in your backyard. These people are going places!

Travelled to Manitoulin from Toronto, and this was by far one of the best dining experiences I have ever had.

Incredibly fresh ingredients, and absolutely everything we tried on the menu was fantastic (and we couldn’t help ourselves, we tried a lot).

The staff is extremely friendly and welcoming as well! I would recommend New Grain to anyone and everyone!

Some of the best food I've ever had. The creamy polenta and smoked scapes dish was inspired and delicious! I can definitely tell how fresh the ingredients are! The rhubarb brulé donut with custard filling was so decadent and balanced!
The bottomless drinks were lovely, barley & maple tea is a refreshing favourite.
Will be a go-to spot every time I'm on the island!

Traveled here from the GTA and let me tell you, New Grain blows every fine dining experience out of the water. No comparison with what the GTA has available, including the $500 per person “dining experiences”.
Incredibly fresh ingredients all sourced from Manitoulin, unique flavour combinations, friendly staff and dog friendly patio. Manitoulin wasn’t anything to write home about but New Grain makes it worthwhile to come back to this place for!

Not just the best meal we had on Manitoulin Island, but one of the best meals I have had. Ever. Anywhere. Sophisticated, imaginative cuisine, all local. Fabulous. I would return to Manitoulin just to go back to this restaurant.

We originally were told to check this place out while we were on the island, & I have to say we’ll coming back to the island again even if its just for the bread lol. The bread was absolutely fantastic, the employees were so kind and ready to help us with any questions we had as well! Definitely take the time to check out this hidden gem.

We were gifted a beautiful loaf of sourdough from New Grain by a lovely staffer who just wanted to feed us. It was the tastiest bread we have ever eaten. Thank you New Grain!
