Dr. D. Rodriguez (cardiologist)

Dr Rodriguez was quiet but pleasant. My husband saw him after he was diagnosed with "heart failure with preserved ejection fraction." He ordered several tests and confirmed this diagnosis. He prescribed Furosemide and Metoprolol which he later changed to Bisoprolol. Beta blockers are known to slow heart rate and My husband's was in the 40's and 50's on a very small dose. Although we advised him more than once about this and the fact that there was no improvement of symptoms ( shortness of breath on exertion, fatigue and fluid retention) he did not change medication. We began hearing that betablockers and other standard cardiac drugs have absolutely no effect on this type of heart failure. After 9 months with no improvement we requested another cardiologist who confirmed this and ordered another diuretic Spironolactone which was effective for reducing fluid and shortness of breath.
