The library was on our way between the accommodation and the downtown area. So, we passed by it many times until we finally decided to go inside. Initially, we hadn't expected to find a library there. It was a fantastic idea to repurpose old buildings in this way.

Visit a library in a converted church.

The Bibliotheque Claire Martin is named after a local feminist writer who won several prizes in the1960s and 1970s.

It’s located inside what was Saint Matthew’s church and still has the original confessionals (now used as book stands), altar area (a reading zone), and baptismal font. It’s gorgeous and worth a quick (or a long) visit.

A very beautifully done conversion of a church into a public library. I love that they kept many features of the church. It was a nice little surprise to find this library in the middle of a busy area in Montreal.

One of the best (small, public) libraries I've been to. And it's in an old, beautifully remodelled gothic church! Mostly all in French, but some English and Spanish. Have a little chapel and tiny art gallery too. Be sure to look at the stained glass window and listen for the Bells...it's an experience!

A must-visit of Quebec City -- most beautiful public library in my 10-years travel. A perfect experience with very friendly, courteous library-users and staff.

Beautiful church repurposed into a beautiful library.
In the heart of hustle and bustle. When you are in the library, the noise and distractions all disappear.

Stop by and enjoy a good book.

Beautifully converted church to a public library. I was walking along the street and stopped in on a whim, and it's absolutely delightful! Many features of the church were retained, and the feeling inside is very peaceful. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Well worth a visit!

My favorite place in Quebec 🤍 Such a gentle, awe inspiring space. I feel like I am in medieval England, all of a sudden when I enter this wonderful church, not to say about the surrounding cemetery. My only, only point that would make this place even more perfect is if the lights could have a more yellow tone rather than so bright white. 🥺

An absolutely beautiful library in a former church. Well worth a stop on your travels through this area of town while checking out the shops and restaurants.
A French-language library of primarily newer books and such. Tons of Manga.
Formerly known as Bibliothèque Saint-Jean-Baptiste?

One of the best ever places that I have found to focus. And The Staff I was really nice.
Also an excellent choice to do an stop, if you are visiting on winter ( 4ªF -15ºC outside)
