Nutwood Farm, Mt Irvine NSW

We go every year. We enjoy a nice picnic in the spacious grassy carpark after picking. Take a buggy/trolley to help carry your haul. Gumboots are great for young children (and old kids) to protect their feet from spikes. A good pair of leather gloves also does the trick for sensitive hands.

An excellent farm for picking chestnuts and walnuts. They have a great FAQ on their website which you can read before coming here, you'll need to check that or their Facebook page for info on when the season starts around March/April to see if it's a good time to go. There are plenty of trees but it's nice that there are at least a couple of varieties of chestnut, one darker, one lighter, with different taste profiles. The man at the gate swears by the smaller lighter coloured ones. Parking is basic, on the grass, easy. There is an outdoor toilet if needed. Surprisingly they take credit and they managed to sign up to starlink this year and have more reliable internet on the farm but I'd take cash anyway to be sure.

We had an amazing time at Nutwood farm picking chestnuts. The farm manager (apologies for never having caught the name) that day was very helpful in providing us tips on how to harvest the best chestnuts. Afterwards we even had the luxury of sitting around a firepit which others had used to roast their chestnuts.

A special shoutout to the farm manager (and Wren) who definitely went above and beyond for us. Having not known any better, we got our car bogged a bit further down from the farm. The good sir after closing the farm at 4, spent close to an 1.5 hours with both arms and knees muddied, helping us get unstuck. We would have been stuck indefinitely without your help as tow trucks and NRMA were not able to work off non-trafficable roads. You forever have our gratitude.

We went here in hope of getting fresh walnuts, but we were too early I reckon since the produce wasn't ready to fall yet. The owners are very lovely and welcoming. if you want some fresh chestnuts this is definitely the place. Also there was a tiny wood fire barbecue at the entrance which you could try some fresh roasted chestnut and it is delicious 😋
Will try some other time again for fresh walnuts which is my favourite.

Friendly and accommodating owner. Bring along a raincoat as the weather can be unpredictable. Chestnuts are AUD8 per kilo and the walnuts are AUD10 per kilo. For best pick, go in the morning and take a walk to the second paddock. To extract from the prickly husk, wear covered shoes to step on the fruit and pick the largest chestnuts. Chestnuts should be firm and hard with no black spots. The farm provides pail, gloves and thongs to help with the picking. We picked 3 kilogrammes of chestnuts to roast in the fireplace.

Nice location for Chestnut picking at $11/kg. Can picnic around the orchard/ car park area. Walnuts not available during Easter weekend but will drop in 2-3 weeks.

Spent my afternoon here with my family. It was a great day, and everyone was very nice and helpful. The owner and his daughters were all willing to answer any questions we had. I highly recommend this farm; and if you're planning to go, make sure you wear proper footwear. My Asics joggers weren't enough to protect my legs from getting spiked. Also, take it easy on the road to get to the farm. It is very narrow and it's easy to lose control.

Had lots of fun there. Beware of going after rain though it gets muddy
