A fascinating part of the history of World War 2. General MacArthur based his command in this building. May we know peace throughout the world one day.

Did a self-guided tour as part of Brisbane Open House 2023. Access is via a call button on the door facing Edward St and the concierge took us up in the elevator. The museum is small but packed with interesting artefacts from the period when Gen. Douglas Macarthur was commanding the allied forces in the WWII Pacific theatre. The office used by the general has been restored and even features the burn mark on his desk where he apparently knocked out his pipe.

Excellent exhibition of MacArthur and life in WWII Brisbane- his HQ office is well preserved. You can self guide or go with a guide at no extra cost. Choose the guide he knows his stuff.

I was delighted to find this museum, as it was unexpected in the centre of Brisbane. General Douglas MacArthur set-up the Allied HQ for the Pacific Campaign during WW2. The museum explores and explains the changes imposed on Brisbane by the demands of 750,000 allied troops billeted around the city. The museum is on the 8th floor, and compact but very interesting and worthwhile.

Fascinating history. A lot of information well laid out, so it's easy to see everything. There are probably lots of people who don't know about Brisbane & WW2. The museum has more than that but it's a highlight.

Truly one of Brisbane’s hidden gems in terms of historical sites. If you have the pleasure of visiting you will truly be immersed in wartime Brisbane, with plenty of insightful information and objects on display. Make sure to take the tour with the guide, as they are incredibly knowledgeable!

Went with my dad when we were in Brisbane in June. He really geeked out because his grandfather was MacArthur's roommate at West Point. He told everybody that would listen and lucky for him, they all seemed pretty interested as well. While he talked to the director, I had a wonderful one on one tour with one of the staff. She was very knowledgeable and also had relatives that were part of the war. It was one of my favorite museum visit I've had. Thanks to the staff of the MacArthur Museum. Awesome trip!

Full of pictures, anecdotes and artefacts of Brisbane's wartime experience hosting Gen Douglas Macarthur and the hundreds of thousands of American troops under his command. Staffed by volunteers, this is a must-visit experience for history buffs. Highly recommended.

General Douglas MacArthur had his office here during WWII. The place has been turned into a museum highlighting what it was like in Brisbane during the war. Very interesting!

Hearing about General McArthur from my dad as a child to living in McArthur Chambers. And finally!!! Visiting the museum was and is the cherry on top.

Lots of informative reading, a couple of videos to watch and displays. I loved the newspaper articles and seeing how Brisbane was affected during WW2. A somber visit.

I'm glad there were other visitors too.

Cheers to the volunteers who care for and are the caretakers of Australia's war time history. A great group of gentlemen. God bless em.

The visit was a wonderful experience. Especially if like me you love to absorb as much information as possible on WW2 Pacific theater.

*Lest we forget

This is an excellent resource for anyone who wishes to learn more about general MacArthur's tenure in Brisbane. Not only because of the video, photo and audio material, but because the museum is staffed by people who lived through the time. Thank you for such a wonderful exhibit.

So much new info. General Macarthur's office and chair from which he directed the war in the Pacific for much of 1942-1944. Wonderfully informative guides.

Today we visited the MacArthur Museum in Brisbane's CBD. Not only was it a fabulous museum, it was also a chance to sneak a peek into a building that was built in the late 1920's and early 1930's. And the first volunteer I met said to me " oh, he was right here, you've just missed him!" and I swear I smelled pipe tobacco. It's small touches like these where boutique museums really shine and volunteers make the visitor experience great. Too much info to take in on one visit so no doubt we'll be back and it's clear that they have more to share than their exhibition space allows. A truly unique slice of Brisbane's history.

Really interesting museum, but what really makes it shine over the rest it’s the friendly and knowledgeable staff! I haven’t been in another museum where the people were so passionate about their job and passing out their knowledge! I learned a lot more than I expected when I walked in, it’s certainly a hidden gem in the city! I was lucky enough to hear many interesting stories from Mr. McShane he was very nice and even spent time suggesting me other places to visit within Australia, the ladies at the front desk were super nice as well. Great experience I would certainly recommend giving this museum a try!

Just as it says, General Douglas MacArthur's HQ in our own Brisbane. Great volunteer staff who greet you and guide you to MacArthur"s office/museum and very helpful and informative. Good information, videos and displays of the war and of course MacArthur's office itself. Walk where MacArthur walked and worked during this terrible time in our history and feel the history and perhaps the man's presence from a time past.

The Macarthur Museum is a little hidden gem in Brisbane CBD. The displays, including General Macarthur's desk, information about the Aussie women who married American soldiers, and the technology used for secret codes provide a very interesting and unique insight into life in Brisbane during WWII. The staff and volunteers are very helpful and the low entrance fee is very good value.
